Nebraska’s early push for Vincent Shields is already paying off in a big way.
The 2028 offensive tackle from Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta, California, said the Huskers moved near the top of his list almost as soon as they extended an official offer. Speaking to On3’s Bobby Schneider, Shields made it clear that Nebraska’s interest stood out to him right away.
“It’s eye-opening for me,” Shields said. “Of all the offers I’ve gotten so far, I would say that’s one of the bigger ones.”
At 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, Shields is a 4-star prospect whose recruitment is picking up steam fast. 247Sports Composite Rankings list him as the No. 241 player in the 2028 class, the No. 27 offensive tackle and the No. 19 player in California. Nebraska appears to have gotten in at the right time, before the race for the big lineman gets even busier.
The Huskers are hardly alone in the chase. Shields already holds offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, California, Colorado, Colorado State, Kansas, NC State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, UCLA and Utah.
One notable wrinkle: USC still hasn’t offered. That leaves Nebraska in position to keep building momentum before the other major in-state powers get involved.
For the Huskers, the timing fits a broader trend. Since Geep Wade arrived, Nebraska has been stacking wins on the offensive line trail. The program hasn’t landed a 2028 commitment yet, but it has already secured pledges from KD Jones, Barrett Kitrell, Matt Erickson, Timi Aliu and Jordan Agbanoma.
The next move for Nebraska is simple: get Shields on campus for a fall gameday. If he’s already this high on the Huskers, that visit could go a long way.
