With the Nebraska spring game just around the corner, fans were eager to see top prospect Nehemiah Ombati in attendance. However, the defensive lineman found himself caught in the chaos of the current air travel issues plaguing the country. Late Friday night, Ombati took to Twitter to share the unfortunate news that he wouldn't make it to Lincoln this weekend due to a canceled flight.
Ombati expressed his disappointment, emphasizing that the cancellation wasn't due to a lack of interest in the Huskers. "I'll be finding another time to be heading to Nebraska due to my flight being canceled," he tweeted, after enduring a four-hour delay at the airport. Despite this setback, Ombati is determined to reschedule his visit to see the Huskers up close.
Nehemiah Ombati, a 4-star defensive line prospect, is highly regarded by both the 247Sports Composite and the Rivals Industry Rankings. The standout from Shakopee (Waconia, MN) is ranked as the No. 3 player in Minnesota, the No. 35 defensive lineman, and the No. 293 player overall by 247Sports. Rivals echoes this sentiment, placing him as the No. 3 player in the state, the No. 45 player at his position, and the No. 366 player in his class.
Nebraska extended an offer to Ombati in January, and he was impressed by the Huskers' pitch. While schools like Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State, and Wisconsin are also vying for his attention, Nebraska hoped the spring game would make a lasting impression. Ombati's junior year stats speak for themselves, with 3.5 sacks and 70 tackles showcasing his potential to excel in the Big Ten.
Currently, it seems the Wisconsin Badgers might have the edge in his recruitment. However, Nebraska remains hopeful of hosting Ombati soon to strengthen their case.
The ongoing TSA issues, compounded by Congress's inability to resolve the situation, mean it could be a few weeks before Ombati attempts another flight. In the meantime, the Huskers will be eagerly awaiting his visit, knowing that landing a player of his caliber could be transformative for their defensive line.
