Nebraska Faces A Defining Week With One Big Roster Concern

Anticipation builds as Nebraska gears up for crucial clashes against Indiana in football and volleyball, with key players' statuses and broadcast details unveiled.

Nebraska football gets a cleaner bill of health heading into Saturday’s showdown with Indiana.

The two players worth watching on the injury report were running back Jamal Rule and cornerback Andrew Marshall, and both are in good shape. Rule sat out the Maryland game, though Dana Holgorsen said Tuesday that he could have played.

Marshall didn’t show up on Wednesday’s report at all. The only Nebraska player of real note listed is Carter Nelson, who is doubtful.

Beyond that, Nebraska’s two-deep is clear, and Indiana’s report is mostly clean as well. That sets up Saturday’s game in Lincoln Memorial Stadium with both teams coming in largely healthy for what Nebraska calls the biggest game the stadium has hosted in two decades.

Former Husker center Cam Jurgens is also back in the news. The Eagles traded him to the Ravens after Jurgens signed a four-year, $68 million deal in 2025.

Jurgens made the Pro Bowl in both 2024 and 2025, and Baltimore sent Philadelphia a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick to get him. The move, at least on paper, fits the Ravens.

On the volleyball side, Nebraska is walking into a tricky road test in Bloomington. The Huskers face 15th-ranked Indiana on Thursday in the Hoosiers’ first-ever top-15 matchup in volleyball. Indiana has been climbing fast, winning 19 of its last 26 Big Ten matches, and it would be the program’s first victory over a No. 1 team.

Jaidyn Jager has been one of Indiana’s biggest threats. The outside hitter has posted at least 10 kills in 17 of her last 24 Big Ten matches. The Hoosiers also bring a block that can change a match; they are 6-0 when they get to at least nine blocks.

Nebraska’s offense, though, has been rolling at an elite level. The Huskers are hitting .323, which ranks No. 2 nationally behind Pitt, and they’ve held opponents to a .090 clip. That gives Nebraska a hitting margin of +.233, the best in college volleyball.

The week doesn’t get any easier after Indiana. Nebraska returns home to face 7th-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday at 6 p.m., with the Indiana match set for 5:30. It will be the first top-10 matchup for Nebraska since the first weekend of the season against Texas.

Nebraska and Wisconsin have delivered plenty of memorable battles over the years, and while the Huskers have controlled the series lately, this one has the feel of another tight, high-level fight. Audrey Flanagan has become a key piece for the Badgers and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after putting up 31 kills across two matches.

The Indiana match will air on the Big Ten Network, and Nebraska-Wisconsin will be on Fox.

Nebraska Gets Rare Good News Before A Big Test Against Indiana

Three days before kickoff, Nebraska is getting a cleaner injury picture than it has seen in a while heading into a Big Ten test against Indiana. Only tight end Carter Nelson and linebacker Gage Stenger are listed as doubtful, while five players have remained out since the start of league play. On the other side, Indiana is dealing with its own mix of availability, though cornerback A.J. Harris and defensive end David Ndukwe are back in the fold.

That matters for a Nebraska team that has spent much of the season managing personnel issues and trying to keep its depth intact. Offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen said running backs Jamal Rule and Mekhi Nelson have been practicing and could be available if needed, which at least gives the Cornhuskers some flexibility as they prepare for a game that could hinge on who is able to suit up and who can handle an expanded role. Nebraska Faces A Defining Test Against Indiana In Brutal Conditions

Nebraska gets a measuring-stick opportunity in Lincoln on Saturday morning, with Indiana coming in as the defending national champion and FOX carrying the game to a national audience. The matchup arrives with wind expected to be a major factor, which should put an even bigger spotlight on Nebraskas improved offensive line and how well the Huskers can handle a disciplined Indiana team that has earned plenty of respect for the way it plays.

For Nebraska, the challenge is as much about structure as star power, because this is the kind of game that can expose flaws quickly in rough conditions. Indiana arrives favored at the betting window, but the early kickoff and the weather figure to make this feel less like a standard Big Ten showcase and more like a test of poise, execution and coaching at every level. Nebraska Faces Its Biggest Test Yet With One Familiar Problem Looming

Nebraska is back in a spot it has not occupied often lately, preparing to host No. 7 Indiana with a 5-0 start in hand for the first time since 2016. The Cornhuskers have already given themselves a real platform in the Big Ten, and they will have quarterback Anthony Colandrea and running back Jamal Rule available as they take on their biggest challenge yet, one that also carries the weight of a 31-game losing streak against ranked opponents.

The matchup brings together a Nebraska team still trying to prove it can finish the job in the moments that matter and an Indiana offense that has clearly earned the attention of Matt Rhule, Rob Aurich and Dana Holgorsen. That combination makes this more than just another ranked game on the schedule, because the Huskers know they will need a cleaner performance across key quarters if they want this one to mean more than a promising start.
