Nebraska Eyes Homegrown Big With Major Upside

Nebraska basketball sets sights on Lincoln native Bangot Dak to enhance their roster with defensive strength and interior scoring.

In the fast-paced world of college basketball, teams like Nebraska are always shifting gears-from dreaming of the Final Four to strategizing for next season. After a tough loss to Iowa, Nebraska's focus is now squarely on roster building.

Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska's head coach, is expected to have two roster spots available, though more could open up. Fans are particularly interested in Braden Frager, the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year. With his talent, other teams are likely to come calling, and Nebraska will need to offer compelling reasons for him to stay.

Pryce Sandfort faces a big decision too, with the NBA draft on the horizon. Meanwhile, Rienk Mast, Sam Hoiberg, and Jamarques Lawrence have exhausted their eligibility. To fill these gaps, Nebraska has already brought in high school talents Colin Rice and Jacob Lanier.

However, the Huskers still need to replace Rienk Mast's presence in the paint. While internal options exist, a new opportunity has emerged with former Colorado center Bangot Dak entering the transfer portal.

Dak, a Lincoln native, has solid credentials. Over the past two seasons with the Buffaloes, he started 50 games, averaging 11.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. Although his 3-point shooting is at 26.5 percent, Fred Hoiberg has a knack for improving shooters.

Dak's defensive prowess and ability to score inside make him an attractive target for Nebraska. Last season, he notched 22 double-digit scoring games and four double-doubles.

His local roots and skill set make him a strong candidate to fill the void left by Mast, especially with his defensive upgrades and rebounding capabilities. Pursuing Dak could be a smart move for the Huskers as they look to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
