The scoreboard kept climbing Friday night, and so did Trae Taylor’s total.
Millard South’s 5-star quarterback, a University of Nebraska commit, put together a monster road performance at Cardinal Ritter in St. Louis, accounting for eight touchdowns in a 55-40 win. Taylor threw five touchdown passes and ran for three more as the Patriots improved to 4-0 and stretched their winning streak to 16 games.
Taylor, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound senior who transferred to Millard South before his final season, has built his reputation on exactly this kind of night. The No. 7 overall prospect in the Class of 2027, according to 247Sports, entered Friday already carrying the kind of national buzz that comes with scholarship offers from coast to coast. He backed it up again, this time against Cardinal Ritter in an out-of-state matchup that turned into a showcase.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Taylor finished with 350 passing yards and five scores through the air, plus 143 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. It came on the heels of another big outing last week, when he posted 304 passing yards, 99 rushing yards and six total touchdowns in a win at Elkhorn South.
Millard South needed every bit of Taylor’s production in a game that stayed tight for three quarters. He hit senior tight end Carter Margheim for two touchdown passes in the first quarter, but the teams traded scores and were tied 14-14 after one. In the second quarter, Taylor found Xane Krause for another touchdown and added a 2-yard rushing score, only for Cardinal Ritter to answer with two late touchdowns and force a 28-28 halftime tie.
The host Lions were playing shorthanded after losing starting sophomore quarterback Rhylan Moore and senior wide receiver Malahn Green, an Oklahoma commit, early to injuries. They also did not have leading rusher Amir Tillman, a senior.
Millard South finally started to separate in the third quarter. Taylor connected with Aidan Marshall for a touchdown pass and then scored again on the ground as the Patriots outscored Ritter 14-6 to move ahead 42-36.
The game got away from Cardinal Ritter in the fourth. Taylor ran for his third touchdown of the night and then threw his second scoring pass to Marshall, giving him five passing touchdowns on the evening and pushing Millard South out to a 55-36 lead. Ritter added one more touchdown with 27 seconds left to close the final margin to 55-40.
Taylor and the Patriots are back home this Friday, Sept. 25, against undefeated Omaha North, which improved to 4-0 with a 34-0 win over Benson on Friday night.

Dylan Raiolas first Oregon outing gave Ducks fans exactly the kind of splashy debut that turns into instant buzz. He was perfect on his passes, threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns in a blowout of Portland State, and immediately reminded everyone why his arm talent has long drawn attention.
Nebraska fans, though, have seen a version of this movie before. Raiolas production there was far more volatile, especially once Big Ten play arrived, with his numbers dropping sharply against conference opponents compared with what he did in non-conference games.
