Huskers Stun Another No 1 Team With Gritty Weekend Win

As Nebraska spring football kicks off with fresh faces and fierce competition, Husker softball and baseball are already making national waves with statement wins and standout performances.

Huskers Softball Stuns Another No. 1, Baseball Stays Hot, and Spring Football Looms

Don’t look now, but Nebraska softball is making a habit of toppling giants - and they’re doing it with poise, power, and a little bit of freshman fire.

For the second straight weekend, the Huskers took down the top-ranked team in the nation. After stunning Texas last week, they followed it up with a gritty 3-2 win over Texas Tech on Sunday.

That marks the fifth time in program history Nebraska has knocked off the No. 1 team - and two of those wins have come in just over a week. That’s not a fluke.

That’s a team playing with confidence and edge.

Freshman Alexis Jensen continues to show she belongs on the big stage. She gave Nebraska four solid innings, allowing just two runs before handing the ball to Jordy Frahm - who slammed the door with three perfect frames to secure the win.

And this wasn’t just any win. The Huskers were facing NiJaree Canady, the two-time national pitcher of the year.

They chased her after 4.2 innings and handed her the first loss of her season. That’s no small feat.

The turning point came off the bat of Jesse Farrell, a transfer from UNLV, who crushed a two-run homer to tie things up. Later, Oklahoma transfer Hannah Coor delivered the go-ahead RBI single, scoring Dakota Carter to put Nebraska on top for good.

Frahm, who’s quickly becoming the team’s Swiss army knife, not only locked down the win in relief but also threw a complete-game shutout in a dominant 6-0 victory over UCF. Oh, and she hit two home runs in that game.

She currently leads the team in just about every offensive category that matters - batting average (among players with 10+ at-bats), hits, home runs, RBIs, and runs scored. Simply put, she’s doing it all.

The Huskers are 6-4 overall, and while they’ve had some tough losses to ranked teams like Georgia (6-5) and Tennessee (4-1), they also posted a convincing 6-0 win over LSU. This team isn’t just dangerous - they’re battle-tested. Next up: South Carolina on Friday.

Nebraska Baseball Starts 3-0 Behind Strong Arms and Hot Bats

On the baseball diamond, things are clicking early for Will Bolt’s squad. Nebraska is off to a perfect 3-0 start, and they’re doing it with a balanced attack - solid starting pitching, timely hitting, and a lineup that’s already showing some serious depth.

Ty Horn set the tone in the opener against UConn, allowing just one run over 4.2 innings. Carson Jasa followed with a win on Saturday, working through five innings and giving up four runs on five hits. Not perfect, but enough to get the job done.

The numbers tell the story. Opposing hitters are batting just .156 against Nebraska, while the Huskers themselves are hitting a scorching .386 as a team. That’s not just hot - that’s smoking.

Case Sanderson has been nearly impossible to get out so far, hitting .636 with seven hits and two doubles. Will Jesske and Dylan Carey both went deep in the win on Sunday, with Carey now batting .467 through three games.

Nebraska will look to keep the momentum rolling Monday afternoon against Stanford after a trio of decisive wins: 12-2 over UConn, 7-4 over Northeastern, and 9-1 over Grand Canyon.

Spring Football Kicks Off Saturday: New Faces, Fresh Battles

It’s only February, but football is back in Lincoln - at least in practice form. Nebraska kicks off spring ball this Saturday, and there’s no shortage of intrigue heading into Year 2 under Matt Rhule.

The biggest theme? Competition - everywhere.

There will be battles at quarterback, running back, and across the offensive line. And that’s just on offense.

On defense, nearly every position group is up for grabs, including wide receiver and tight end. This spring is shaping up to be an all-out audition.

New quarterback Anthony Colandrea enters the mix, and he’ll be working with two new coordinators: Rob Aurich on defense and Brett Maher on special teams. Geep Wade takes over the offensive line, Corey Brown leads the defensive line, and for the first time under Rhule, Nebraska has a run-game coordinator in Lonnie Teasley.

With so many new voices and fresh faces, this spring is less about answers and more about discovery. The next month will be crucial in shaping what this team looks like come fall - and who rises to the top in a wide-open depth chart.

One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a busy - and potentially transformative - spring in Lincoln.
