Huskers Eye Major 2026 Flip as Braden Frager Status Shifts

Nebraska football eyes a key 2026 defensive addition while the basketball team faces uncertainty with rising star Braden Frager sidelined.

Nebraska Football Making Moves on the Defensive Line, Eyes on Damaad Lewis and Dylan Berymon

Nebraska’s 2026 recruiting class might be getting a major boost in the trenches - and not a moment too soon. After going without a defensive line signee in the early period, the Huskers are now in a strong position to flip that narrative.

The latest development? Nebraska is emerging as a top contender for EDGE rusher Damaad Lewis, a former Florida State signee who was recently released from his letter of intent.

Lewis, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound edge rusher from Fort Myers, Florida, is a three-star prospect ranked No. 464 nationally in the 247Sports Composite. He’s not just a late riser or a backup plan - Nebraska was in the thick of his recruitment before he initially committed to Florida State.

In fact, Lewis took an official visit to Lincoln back in October. The Huskers were one of the finalists then, and now that Florida State is out of the picture, Nebraska looks like the frontrunner.

That said, NC State and Texas are still in the mix, so this one isn’t in the bag just yet.

But Nebraska isn’t stopping with Lewis. Head coach Matt Rhule and new defensive line coach Corey Brown were on the road Thursday visiting four-star defensive tackle Dylan Berymon - a 6-foot-2, 330-pound force who just wrapped up a visit to Lincoln.

Berymon, ranked No. 199 nationally, would be a major get. If Nebraska can close the deal on both Lewis and Berymon, it would mean two top-500 defensive line signees in the 2026 class - a massive turnaround for a group that had been lacking up front.

This would also bring some much-needed balance to a class that’s been heavy on the offensive side of the ball. Nebraska has already made strong additions to the offensive line and landed immediate-impact talent in Danny Odem. If the staff can pair that with a couple of high-upside defensive linemen, it would go a long way toward solidifying the overall quality of the 2026 class - which, from day one, has been about raising the bar in terms of talent and readiness to contribute.

Braden Frager Injury Update as Nebraska Hoops Prepares for Crucial Stretch

On the hardwood, Nebraska basketball is riding a wave - but they’re doing it without one of their most important contributors at full strength. Redshirt freshman Braden Frager, who’s been making a strong case as the Big Ten’s Sixth Man of the Year, suffered a sprained ankle and played just four minutes in the Huskers’ recent 10-point win over Washington.

The good news? Nebraska handled business without him.

The bad news? Frager’s status for the upcoming Big Ten slate is cloudy.

According to Robin Washut, Frager hasn’t been officially ruled out for the next game against Minnesota, but he’s not expected to suit up. And looking ahead to the top-10 showdown in Ann Arbor against Michigan, his availability is “questionable at best.”

That’s a tough blow for a Nebraska team that’s been building real momentum. Frager’s scoring punch and energy off the bench have been key to the Huskers’ undefeated run.

If they can get past Minnesota and move to 20-0, the matchup with Michigan becomes one of the biggest games of the season - and potentially a defining moment for this team. Whether Frager can be part of it remains to be seen, but Nebraska will need all hands on deck to keep this special season rolling.
