Nebraska's Pro Day was a showcase of talent, with 14 draft-eligible players putting their skills to the test in Lincoln. Among them, running back Emmett Johnson stood out, poised to be one of the top picks in the upcoming NFL Draft in Pittsburgh.
Johnson, who already impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine, took to the field again to run the 40-yard dash, clocking times in the 4.4s-a significant improvement from his previous 4.56 seconds. This speed, paired with his comprehensive participation in drills, caught the eye of scouts, including New Orleans Saints running backs coach Joe Thomas.
Johnson's determination and competitive spirit were evident as he shared, "There were a couple teams that were telling me-they know I'm an alpha male who is going to come in and compete. I love to compete." With meetings lined up with teams like the Vikings, Johnson plans to watch the draft with his family in Minneapolis, confident in his ability to be a versatile weapon on any NFL roster.
In addition to Johnson, tight end Heinrich Haarberg turned heads with his athleticism. Weighing in at 238 pounds, Haarberg recorded a personal best in the broad jump at 10 feet 8 inches and impressed with a 38-inch vertical.
His 40-yard dash times ranged from 4.45 to 4.55 seconds, showcasing his speed. Haarberg's willingness to adapt to any position highlights his team-player mentality: "Whatever it takes to play at the next level, I'm willing to do."
Guard Henry Lutovsky also made his mark, bench pressing 34 reps-a feat that would have led all linemen at the Combine. Lutovsky has been honing his skills in Fort Meyers, focusing on demonstrating his versatility across the offensive line. With guidance from Philadelphia Eagles center Cameron Jurgens, Lutovsky is taking the pre-draft process one day at a time.
Linebacker Javin Wright described his Pro Day experience as "surreal," having once been a supporter on the sidelines. Now, he's the one under the spotlight, continuing his training in Arizona after a stint in Denver. Wright's journey has been marked by overcoming past health challenges, adding depth to his story as he prepares for the next chapter.
Each of these athletes brought something unique to Nebraska's Pro Day, leaving scouts with plenty to consider as the draft approaches.
