As spring football kicks off, the excitement is palpable, even with a blanket of snow on the ground. The Huskers are making strides, and a few new faces are already turning heads.
Among them are edge defender Anthony Jones, defensive lineman Jahsear Whittington, and linebacker Dexter Foster. These players, fresh from the transfer portal, are making their presence felt early in spring practices.
Dexter Foster, a 6-3, 235-pound linebacker, has particularly caught the eye. My colleague pointed him out during Tuesday's practice, and it's easy to see why. Foster is the kind of player who stands out immediately, both on the field and on the roster sheet.
Husker defensive coordinator had his eye on Foster for some time. The junior transfer from Oregon State was highlighted as one of the top 100 under-the-radar portal additions, according to a report that gathered insights from general managers and personnel experts nationwide.
A Big 12 general manager praised Foster, saying, "I thought he was really good." Despite an injury that limited him to seven games last year, Foster racked up 52 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Husker coach Matt Rhule echoed this sentiment, noting Foster's physicality and athleticism, "He's made a lot of plays and he's doing a nice job."
As we continue to watch this team develop, Foster is certainly a player to keep an eye on. His presence is already making waves, and it’s clear why he’s generating buzz.
