NC State WR Jimmar Boston Enters Transfer Portal After Quiet Season

Once a highly touted recruit, Jimmar Boston becomes the latest NC State player to seek new opportunities through the transfer portal.

NC State wide receiver Jimmar “Tank” Boston is officially entering the transfer portal, signaling a new chapter for the redshirt freshman as he looks to find a fresh start elsewhere in college football.

Boston made the announcement himself, posting to social media with a simple message: “God’s Timing.” It’s a phrase that speaks to patience and belief in the bigger picture-two things that have likely played a role in his journey so far.

The 6-foot receiver saw limited action during his time in Raleigh. As a true freshman in 2024, Boston logged just nine snaps in a game against Stanford.

This past season, he appeared in three games, totaling 23 snaps. While the on-field opportunities were scarce, the raw talent has never been in question.

Coming out of high school, Boston was a highly regarded recruit. ESPN ranked him as a four-star prospect in the 2024 class, placing him No. 296 nationally and the No. 6 player in the state of South Carolina. That kind of pedigree doesn’t go unnoticed, and it’s safe to say his name will draw interest in the portal.

Boston originally committed to NC State in September of 2023, choosing the Wolfpack over Virginia Tech. It was a win for the Pack at the time, landing a dynamic athlete with upside as both a route runner and a playmaker in space.

Now, Boston becomes the seventh NC State player to hit the portal this cycle. He joins a group that includes linebacker Elijah Groves, wide receiver Christian Zachary, running back Hollywood Smothers, defensive ends Justin Terrell and Josh Alexander-Felton, and offensive lineman Val Erickson.

For Boston, the move is about opportunity. With just 32 total snaps across two seasons, the chance to reset and find a system where he can contribute more consistently makes sense. The talent is there, and with the right fit, he could still make a real impact at the collegiate level.

As always with the portal, timing and situation are everything. And for Tank Boston, the next stop could be the one that finally unlocks his potential.
