NC State WR Christian Zachary to Enter Transfer Portal with 3 Years of Eligibility Remaining
NC State redshirt freshman wide receiver Christian Zachary is heading to the transfer portal, announcing his decision with three years of eligibility still on the table.
Zachary made the move public via social media, signaling the next chapter in his college football journey after two seasons in Raleigh. While his on-field action has been limited-just one snap in a 2024 matchup against Stanford and four more this season against Campbell-Zachary remains an intriguing prospect with untapped potential.
Coming out of high school in South Carolina, Zachary was a consensus three-star recruit in the 2024 class. He initially committed to Virginia before flipping to NC State, where he joined a wide receiver room that was already deep with talent. He held offers from a handful of solid programs including Duke, Cincinnati, Liberty, Appalachian State, and others, showing he was on the radar for several FBS-level staffs.
At 6-foot-1 with a solid frame and athletic upside, Zachary's limited game reps don’t tell the full story. He’s a developmental receiver who now gets a fresh opportunity to find a better fit-whether that’s a place where he can compete for early playing time, or a system that better suits his skill set.
Zachary becomes the fifth NC State player to hit the portal this cycle, joining running back Hollywood Smothers and defensive ends Justin Terrell and Josh Alexander-Felton. The transfer window officially opens on January 2nd, and with three full seasons of eligibility left, Zachary figures to draw interest from programs looking to invest in a young, moldable receiver.
This is the time of year when roster reshaping kicks into high gear, and for players like Zachary, it’s all about finding the right opportunity to grow, contribute, and make an impact.
