NC State WR Noah Rogers to Enter Transfer Portal After Two Seasons in Raleigh
Change is coming to the NC State wide receiver room, and it’s coming fast. Sophomore wideout Noah Rogers, a former four-star recruit and one of the most highly touted high school players to come out of North Carolina in recent years, is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens in January.
For Wolfpack fans, this one hits a little differently. Rogers isn’t just any player-he’s a Raleigh native, a local standout who lit up scoreboards at Rolesville High School and carried sky-high expectations into college. Ranked as the No. 40 overall player and the eighth-best wide receiver in the nation by 247Sports in the 2023 class, Rogers initially committed to Ohio State before transferring to NC State last January.
He came home with fanfare, joining a strong transfer class that ranked No. 18 nationally. But despite the potential and the pedigree, Rogers never quite broke through as a dominant WR1 in Raleigh. Over two seasons with the Wolfpack, he totaled 68 receptions for 919 yards and three touchdowns-solid numbers, but not quite the breakout many had hoped for.
Still, Rogers had his moments. None bigger than a 44-yard reception against North Carolina late in the 2024 season-a clutch play that set up the game-winning touchdown in Chapel Hill and extended NC State’s winning streak in the rivalry to four. That catch, in that moment, was exactly the kind of spark fans expected when he joined the program.
His final appearance in a Wolfpack uniform came in the Gasparilla Bowl, where he caught two passes for 37 yards.
Rogers’ departure marks the second significant loss at the position this week. Leading receiver Terrell Anderson also announced his intent to enter the portal, leaving the Wolfpack suddenly thin at wideout heading into the offseason.
That opens the door for some younger talent to step into bigger roles. Freshman Teddy Hoffmann is one name to watch.
He showed flashes this season, finishing with 25 catches for 349 yards and three touchdowns-including a 40-yard score in the Gasparilla Bowl. With another offseason under his belt, Hoffmann could be primed for a breakout sophomore campaign.
He’ll likely be joined by returning contributors Wesley Grimes and Kennan Jackson as the new core of the receiving corps.
For Rogers, the next chapter begins in January when the portal opens. He’ll be looking for a fresh start, and there’s no doubt programs around the country will be interested in a former top-50 recruit with Power Five experience and big-play ability.
As for NC State, the offseason just got a little more interesting. The Wolfpack will have to retool quickly at receiver, but there’s young talent waiting in the wings-and opportunity often brings out the best in players ready to take the next step.
