NC State is getting an early look at one of North Carolina’s most coveted young guards.
Four-star shooting guard Chacho Womack is set to visit the Wolfpack on August 20, giving Justin Gainey and his staff a chance to make their case with one of the state’s premier prospects before the rest of his schedule kicks in. Womack’s trip to Raleigh is the first of three visits he currently has lined up this offseason.
After NC State, Womack is scheduled to visit Virginia on August 29 and Kansas State on September 12. That order matters for the Wolfpack, which will have the opening shot to establish itself before he moves on to Charlottesville and Manhattan later in the month.
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard from West Charlotte has already built a strong national profile. 247Sports lists him as the No. 13 shooting guard in the country and the No. 5 overall player in North Carolina. Rivals is also high on him, slotting him as the No. 74 overall player nationally.
Womack backed up that buzz with a productive sophomore season at West Charlotte High School. In 2025-26, he averaged 17.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and shot 41% from three-point range.
His recruiting board is still taking shape, but the offers have started to pile up. Virginia Tech, Florida State, Mississippi State, LSU and Texas A&M are among the schools that have already extended scholarships, and more high-major programs are expected to join the chase with nearly two full years still left before signing day.
For NC State, the appeal is obvious. The staff has made in-state recruiting a priority, and Womack fits exactly the kind of talent the Wolfpack wants to keep home. Landing him would be another sign that NC State is serious about building early relationships with the best prospects in North Carolina.

NC States first fall camp practice did not take long to start sorting out the early pecking order, at least in the brief window the media was allowed to watch. The opening hour offered a first look at how the Wolfpack were lining up on offense and defense, with several familiar names already showing up in key spots as the staff began the long process of settling on its depth chart.
CJ Bailey was with the first-team offense at quarterback, while Keenan Jackson, Davion Dozier, JoJo Trader and Victor Snow were among the receivers working with the top group, with Dozier and Trader rotating in one spot. Up front, the second defensive line group included AJ Prim, Chase Bond and Omarion Abraham, another sign that camp will be defined by competition at multiple positions. Even the special teams work had an evaluative feel, with Jerel Bolder, Deandre Desinor, Duke Scott, Davion Gause and King Mack all getting turns in kickoff return drills as the Wolfpack opened camp with plenty still to sort out.
