NC State’s best shot at a big 2026 season may start with what happens inside Carter-Finley Stadium.
The Wolfpack will open its home schedule on Friday, Sept. 11, against Richmond, and they’ll do it with a four-game home winning streak already in tow. That kind of run fits a bigger trend that has defined Dave Doeren’s program over the past eight seasons: when NC State is at home, it usually takes care of business.
Since 2018, the Wolfpack have gone 43-12 at Carter-Finley, a 78.2% winning clip that ranks third among current ACC teams. Only Clemson, at 46-8 and 85.2%, and SMU, at 38-9 and 80.9%, have been better.
The separation is real. Miami sits fourth at 71.7%, which still leaves NC State 6.5 percentage points ahead of the next closest ACC program. Behind the Wolfpack, the numbers drop off fast.
That home edge matters even more when you look at the 2026 slate. NC State gets seven games at Carter-Finley, including five against ACC opponents, and there’s no Miami, Clemson or SMU on the schedule. Louisville stands out as the toughest visitor by a clear margin.
The Cardinals were picked third in the official ACC Preseason Poll, while NC State landed seventh. Every other ACC team coming to Raleigh was picked 10th or lower: Duke 10th, Cal 12th, Wake Forest 13th and Syracuse 14th.

ESPN Analytics is buying into the setup, too. It projects NC State to finish 6-1 at home, with the only loss coming against Louisville.
The network gives the Wolfpack a 39.4% chance to beat the Cardinals on Oct. 3.
That game could end up carrying real weight. If NC State can pull that one off, an undefeated home season doesn’t sound far-fetched on paper.
Appalachian State will have plenty of incentive, and ACC games against Wake Forest and Duke don’t come with any guarantees. One stumble can change everything.
Still, the path is there. NC State has spent years making Carter-Finley one of the ACC’s toughest places to win, and in 2026, that advantage could be the difference in another push toward the program’s first 10-win season since 2002.
