Titans Surprise Signing Could Change Everything

In a surprising shake-up, the Titans fortify their tight end lineup with Daniel Bellinger and Kyler Granson, challenging expectations and shaking up their offensive strategy.

The Tennessee Titans made waves on the first day of NFL free agency by signing tight end Daniel Bellinger to a significant contract. This move by GM Mike Borgonzi sets up Bellinger and Gunnar Helm as the new dynamic duo at tight end, signaling a shift away from Chig Okonkwo, who has now inked a three-year deal with the Washington Commanders.

But the Titans weren't finished bolstering their tight end corps. They've added Kylen Granson to the mix, a move that caught many by surprise given the existing investment in the position. With David Martin-Robinson already on the roster as TE3, Granson's arrival ramps up the competition, clearly a strategic push by Borgonzi to elevate the group’s performance.

Granson, a veteran presence, logged 244 offensive snaps across 17 games with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, though his impact was more pronounced on special teams, where he saw 290 snaps. This suggests that his signing might be aimed at strengthening John "Bones" Fassel's special teams unit. Yet, Martin-Robinson was a standout on special teams too, leading the team with 377 snaps in 2025.

Granson isn't just a special teams ace; he brings proven pass-catching chops to the table, having recorded back-to-back seasons with 30-plus receptions during his time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022 and 2023. It's an interesting connection that Titans defensive coordinator Gus Bradley was part of those Colts teams, adding an insider perspective to Granson’s abilities.

As the Titans gear up for the upcoming season, Helm and Bellinger will be the mainstays at tight end, with Martin-Robinson and Granson battling for those crucial rotational spots. Given their dual-threat capabilities on special teams, there’s a good chance the Titans might opt to carry four tight ends on their 53-man roster, ensuring depth and versatility across the board.
