The Predators are trimming their camp roster, and the biggest name headed out the door is Brady Martin.
Nashville announced Tuesday that Martin will not make the opening-night roster and has been reassigned to AHL Milwaukee. He’s joined in the move by Hunter Skinner, who was reassigned after clearing waivers yesterday, and goaltender Ethan Haider, who has been assigned to ECHL Atlanta after attending camp on a professional tryout.
Martin’s demotion comes after a notable rise and a rougher road than many expected. He cracked Nashville’s opening-night roster last year as an 18-year-old, just months after being taken fifth overall in the 2025 draft. At the time, the AHL wasn’t an option for him, but that changed this season under a rule that allows NHL teams to send 19-year-olds from the Canadian Hockey League junior system to the minors if they were drafted in the first round.
Even with that pathway now open, there was still plenty of expectation that Martin could force his way into the lineup right away. Instead, the heavy-hitting center had a tough post-draft season, with a right shoulder injury limiting him to 24 regular-season games with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds. His scoring also dipped, as he followed up a 33-39-72 line in 57 games during his draft year with a point-per-game pace after the injury.
His preseason didn’t change the picture much. Martin appeared in three of Nashville’s four exhibition games and finished with one goal and a -2 rating.
The Predators also have a crowded middle to sort through. They shifted another recent first-round pick, Matthew Wood, to center, and added promising center Mavrik Bourque from the Stars over the summer. Ryan O’Reilly and Jack Drury are already in the mix, giving Nashville a group down the middle that looks set for now.
There is still more roster work ahead. The Predators need to make three more cuts before Monday night’s roster submission deadline, and at least two of those are expected to be defensemen, with 10 still on the roster.
The decision on whether Nashville carries 13 or 14 forwards could depend on Tyson Jost, who remains in camp on a professional tryout and could be signed to a contract. Vitali Pinchuk, the top international free agent from this summer’s cycle, is another factor; if he doesn’t crack the NHL roster out of camp, he would likely exercise an out clause and return to Russia.
His situation also appears to be part of the reason Martin is being sent down, at least for the time being.

It was a busy waiver day around the league, with the Detroit Red Wings also taking defenseman Andreas Englund from the Calgary Flames while the other 59 players on waivers went unclaimed.
