Predators Blue Line Plans May Be Bigger Than Fans Expected

With key players on the move, the NHL trade market heats up as teams like the Minnesota Wild and Seattle Kraken strategize for a competitive edge this season.

The Minnesota Wild have not been shy about swinging for the fences on the trade market, and Danila Yurov is the latest name to surface in that conversation. Chris Johnston of The Athletic reported yesterday that the Wild “have dangled” the 22-year-old as part of packages aimed at landing bigger fish.

That’s notable because Yurov sits right near the top of Minnesota’s prospect pool. The 2022 first-round pick has turned into one of the organization’s most intriguing young pieces, and his profile only got stronger after a strong rookie KHL season in 2025-26, when he posted 12 goals and 27 points in 73 games and helped win a KHL championship.

He can line up at center or on the wing, and he has already opened this season with four goals and five points in 14 games. A year ago, Elite Prospects ranked him No. 2 in the Wild system and described him as “a quick, intelligent player with physical bite” who “should be able to carve out success as a middle-six center in the NHL.”

Yurov isn’t the only young name tied to trade chatter. Johnston also reported that Seattle center Shane Wright “remains a piece the Kraken might move to address another area of need.”

Wright, taken No. 4 overall in 2022, had looked like he was finding his footing during his 2024-25 breakout, when he finished with 19 goals and 44 points and appeared to be developing into a long-term No. 2 center. But the production has dipped since then.

Over his last 86 games, he has 15 goals and 31 points, and this season he has just four points in 12 games.

If there’s a move there, it may not come as a surprise to everyone involved. TSN’s Darren Dreger reported yesterday that Wright’s “camp has been trying to find a move dating back to last January.”

Nashville defenseman Nicolas Hague is another player to keep an eye on. Johnston reported yesterday that “Hague’s name has surfaced in some talks” as the Predators weigh more changes in year one of the Chris MacFarland era. Earlier this month, reports suggested Nashville wants to “remake” its defense, and moving Hague would fit that plan.

The 27-year-old is carrying a $5.5MM cap hit through the 2028-29 season, and he gains a six-team no-trade list next year.

Red Wings Face Growing Pressure Around Simon Edvinssons Future

The early-season market for young defensemen is already starting to take shape, and Simon Edvinsson is right in the middle of it. The Red Wings are trying to re-sign the restricted free agent before the Dec. 1 deadline, but interest is building around the league, including from Nashville and San Jose, as clubs look to add a defender with upside rather than pay full price on the open market later.

For the Predators, the appeal is easy to see. They have been tied to a push for more young skill, and that makes a player like Edvinsson an obvious fit if Detroit cannot close the gap on a new deal. Nashville also is watching a broader defense market that could open up, with veteran names such as Nicolas Hague and Brady Skjei mentioned as possible trade candidates, giving the Predators multiple paths if they decide to keep building on the blue line.
