Marchessault Stuns Fans Amid Predators Trade Speculation

As the trade deadline approaches, the Nashville Predators weigh potential moves involving veteran forwards Erik Haula and Jonathan Marchessault to bolster future prospects.

As the Nashville Predators find themselves four points shy of a wildcard spot in the Western Conference, General Manager Barry Trotz is keeping his options open. Trotz isn't hesitating to explore trade possibilities, even if it means parting with key players.

While much of the buzz this season has centered around veterans like Steven Stamkos and Ryan O'Reilly, the spotlight is now shifting to Erik Haula and Jonathan Marchessault as the trade deadline looms.

Haula, at 34, is wrapping up a three-year, $9.45 million contract, and with a six-team no-trade list, he's poised to become an unrestricted free agent come July 1. Marchessault, a year older and in the second year of his five-year, $27.5 million deal, holds a full no-movement clause, giving him the power to approve any potential trade.

Trotz, who recently announced his plans to retire once a new GM is in place, is actively considering roster changes. Haula’s expiring contract makes him a likely candidate for a trade. However, Marchessault could command a more substantial return, and there’s speculation he might waive his no-movement clause for the right fit.

Teams like the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings have previously shown interest in Marchessault, adding intrigue to the situation.

According to reports, the Predators were already engaged in trade discussions before the Olympic break. With the season back in full swing, those conversations are expected to heat up, though it remains uncertain if Haula or Marchessault were part of those initial talks.

Additionally, players like Michael Bunting, Cole Smith, Tyson Jost, Michael McCarron, and defenseman Nick Blankenburg are also in the final year of their contracts. Both Bunting and McCarron have attracted interest from multiple teams, adding further layers to Nashville's trade considerations.

As the March 6 deadline approaches, all eyes will be on the Predators to see how they navigate these pivotal decisions.
