Blues Front Office Shakeup As Chiarelli Eyes Predators

Peter Chiarelli's departure from the St. Louis Blues opens the door for a potential leadership role with the Nashville Predators amid broader changes in the Blues' front office.

In a significant shake-up for the St. Louis Blues, Peter Chiarelli is stepping away from his role as vice president of hockey operations.

This move comes as he eyes new opportunities, with reports suggesting he’s a contender for the Nashville Predators' general manager position. The Predators have been on the lookout for a new GM since Barry Trotz announced his departure earlier this season.

Chiarelli, who has been with the Blues since 2021, brings a wealth of experience. He previously served as the general manager for the Edmonton Oilers from 2015 to 2019 and the Boston Bruins from 2006 to 2015, where he famously led the Bruins to a Stanley Cup victory in 2011.

Adding to the Blues' front-office changes, Kevin Maxwell is also exiting. Maxwell, who managed the Springfield Thunderbirds and worked as a pro scout, is expected to return to the New York Rangers, where he spent 14 seasons, including a decade as their director of pro scouting.

The Blues are undergoing a transition period, with Alexander Steen set to take over as general manager from Doug Armstrong. This change was first announced in 2024, signaling a new direction for the franchise. Currently, the Blues are in a tight race for the playoffs, trailing the Nashville Predators by six points for the final wild-card spot, with several teams in between.

As the Predators conduct their search for a new GM, they’re taking a methodical approach, having spoken to around 15 candidates without rushing the decision. This strategic patience underscores their commitment to finding the right fit for their organization.
