NHL Overturns Canadiens Goal After Review Sparks New Verdict

NHL's scoring revision shifts Montreal Canadiens' spotlight from Caufield to Slafkovsky after video review alters goal credit.

The NHL recently made a noteworthy correction concerning the Montreal Canadiens' third goal. Initially credited to Cole Caufield, the goal has now been rightfully awarded to Juraj Slafkovsky after a detailed review.

Fans were already celebrating Caufield's supposed 45th goal of the season, but the league's review process revealed a different story. Replays showed the puck deflecting off Slafkovsky before finding its way past goaltender Frederik Andersen. As a result, the NHL officially reassigned the goal from Caufield to the young forward Slafkovsky.

This adjustment means Caufield's tally reverts to 44 goals, putting a slight pause on his pursuit of the 50-goal milestone and the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy. But don't count him out yet; Caufield still has time to add to his impressive total before the season wraps up.

Slafkovsky, with his 28th goal of the season, demonstrated his knack for being in the right place at the right time, creating opportunities and seizing them near the net. His skillful positioning continues to be a key asset for the Canadiens.

It's been a busy night for the league's official scorers at the Bell Centre, with earlier adjustments also needed for the Hurricanes' goal scorers. Despite the corrections, Caufield and the Canadiens remain poised to make their mark as the season progresses.

Stay tuned for more highlights and action as Caufield looks to light the lamp again soon.
