Canadiens Prep for Senators with Key Players Back on the Ice
As the Canadiens gear up for their Tuesday night tilt against the Ottawa Senators, there was some encouraging movement at morning skate in Montreal. A number of players hit the ice for an optional session, including defenseman Jayden Struble, who’s currently listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. His presence at practice doesn’t lock him into the lineup just yet, but it’s a positive sign for a blue line that’s been juggling bodies lately.
Struble wasn’t alone. Several other regulars and depth players took part in the optional skate, giving the coaching staff a closer look at their available options ahead of puck drop.
Here’s a breakdown of who suited up for the session:
Forwards:
- Alex Belzile
- Brandon Davidson
- Brendan Gallagher
- Kasperi Kapanen
- Nick Suzuki
- Joe Veleno
- Alexandre Texier
- Florian Xhekaj
Defensemen:
- William Carrier
- Noah Dobson
- Adam Engstrom
- Lane Hutson
- Jayden Struble
- Arber Xhekaj
Goaltenders:
- Jakub Dobes
- Samuel Montembeault
Head coach Martin St-Louis confirmed that Samuel Montembeault will get the start in net against Ottawa. The 27-year-old netminder has been steady between the pipes and continues to earn the trust of the coaching staff. Any final lineup decisions-especially with Struble’s status still uncertain-will be made following warm-ups.
The Canadiens will also be hosting a Lane Hutson bobblehead night at the Bell Centre, a nod to the young blueliner who’s quickly becoming a fan favorite with his offensive instincts and smooth skating.
Puck drops at 7:00 p.m. ET. With the Senators in town and the Habs looking to build some momentum, expect a competitive matchup-and maybe a few surprises once the final lineup is revealed.
