Canadiens Suddenly Loom In Dylan Larkin Trade Drama

Dylan Larkin is poised to shake up his trade options amidst ongoing negotiations and strategic maneuvers.

Dylan Larkin’s trade list may not stay at 10 teams for long.

Elliotte Friedman said there’s a real chance the group changes in the next day or two, noting, “I think over the next 24-48 hours, it’s possible we see that trade list altered,” on Larkin. The question is whether that means teams are coming off the list or getting added to it, but either way, movement appears to be coming.

So far, no Canadian clubs have made the cut. That could still change, and Montreal has been floated as a possible addition if the list gets reshaped.

Friedman also suggested Florida, Vegas and Colorado may be tough fits for a deal. The issue, as he laid it out, is that those teams may not have the desire, the assets or the cap space to pull it off. If that holds, they could be removed from consideration.

The urgency is obvious. Larkin is no longer just waiting around for a trade while staying in the lineup.

He has pulled himself from play, and every game missed costs him money. If the 10 teams currently on the list can’t or won’t make something happen, the list itself may need to be revisited.

His agent, Pat Brisson, addressed Larkin’s decision with this statement: “Dylan’s had enough of the situation. We believe he’s been very professional and cooperative through this process.”

Even so, the move has not put extra pressure on Detroit. If anything, it has given the Red Wings more reason to be patient, beyond the fact that they’re weaker on the ice without him.

There’s also the possibility that Larkin is trying to create leverage by widening the field. Adding teams could force more action and build a market where one has been slow to form.

According to Pierre LeBrun, one of Minnesota’s offers has included 2-3 first-round picks, but Detroit wants immediate NHL help rather than a futures-heavy package. Washington has reportedly been involved “to some level,” though its offer may not be enough for the Red Wings to accept. New Jersey and Carolina have also been in discussions with Detroit this week, per sources.

And then there’s Montreal. If Larkin adds the Canadiens, the trade could happen right away, and some around the situation believe Detroit and Montreal already have a deal in place. The only thing missing, in that view, is Larkin’s approval.

Brendan Gallagher Is Suddenly Under Pressure Montreal Fans Never Expected

Brendan Gallaghers start with Vancouver has been a jolt for anyone who expected the veteran winger to settle quickly into a familiar role. The 34-year-old arrived in June and instead has found himself fighting for every shift, with his usage shrinking and his place in the lineup suddenly becoming a topic of debate among fans who are used to seeing him as a dependable presence.

The frustration has spilled into calls for the Canucks to make a bigger move with him, whether that means a trip to the press box or something more drastic. Gallagher, for his part, is not entertaining retirement and says he still wants to prove he can help this team, but the early-season uncertainty around his role has made this a far more uncomfortable story than anyone around the club likely anticipated. Kirby Dachs Late Scratch Puts Canadiens Fans On Edge Again

Illness forced another lineup shuffle for the Canadiens, and Kirby Dach was the latest regular to get pulled from the mix just before game time. Montreal had to adjust on the fly, with Owen Beck stepping into the fourth-line role as the club tried to keep its forward group intact during a stretch where every available body matters.

The good news for the Canadiens is that Dachs absence is not expected to linger, with a return on the horizon as soon as Tuesday against the Jets. For a team already managing the usual wear and tear of the season, even a short-term scratch can feel like a reminder of how quickly the depth chart can change, especially when the margins are this thin. Canadiens Still Need One Bold Move From Kent Hughes

Kent Hughes has already shown he is willing to keep pushing for a meaningful upgrade, and the latest wrinkle around Montreals search for scoring help says plenty about how aggressive the Canadiens are trying to be. According to reports, the general manager explored a three-team framework with Pittsburgh in an effort to land Kirill Marchenko, with Rickard Rakell part of the broader conversation, a sign that Montreal is still hunting for a forward who can change the look of its top six rather than simply add depth.

The deal never came together, and the reason helps explain why these bigger swings are so hard to finish. Columbus was looking for a more established player, the kind of piece Montreal was not prepared to include, and Toronto ended up getting that type of return in Matthew Knies instead. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, has signaled a willingness to move a veteran for draft picks, which keeps Rakell in the mix as a name worth watching if Hughes decides the Canadiens still need one more bold move.
