The suggestion came from Bruno Gervais on BPM Sports, who sees the veteran winger as a possible fit for Kent Hughes. Gervais also believes Kane would be willing to sign with the Montreal Canadiens.
Kane is not coming off a down year. He put up 57 points in 67 games last season, a strong showing for a player who has already built a career as a former 100-point scorer in the NHL.
Even at 37, his touch hasn’t disappeared. His hands and vision are still described as among the best in the world.
What makes the idea especially interesting is the potential pairing with Ivan Demidov. Kane could be a natural complement for a young forward like Demidov, offering the kind of experience that can help while still producing at a 70-to-75-point pace. His ability to read the ice, wait out defenders and create space could help speed up Demidov’s growth into a true game-breaking player.
For Montreal, the appeal is obvious. Kane would not be a long-term commitment, and that short-term nature is part of the attraction.
The Canadiens would not be asking him to drive the attack by himself. In a clearly defined role, he could still be a useful addition.
And with three Stanley Cup championships on his résumé, he would also bring a level of experience that a young roster can lean on.
