Robert Orr is set to start the professional chapter of his career inside the Montreal Canadiens organization.
The Trois-Rivières Lions, one of Montreal’s affiliates, have added the Montreal native as a new forward, bringing in a player whose track record points to real offensive upside. Orr was a fifth-round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2021, but after spending the last two seasons at the university level, he’ll now get his first pro opportunity with the Lions.

Before reaching that stage, Orr built a strong junior résumé across four QMJHL seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads, Gatineau Olympiques and Acadie-Bathurst Titan. He made an immediate impression as a rookie in 2020-21, when he led all league rookies. His biggest offensive year came in 2023-24, when he put up 82 points.
By the time his junior run was over, Orr had stacked up 199 points in 233 games, with 78 goals among them.
At the university level, he spent two seasons with the University of Prince Edward Island in U Sports and produced 45 points in 55 games as a left winger. Now listed at 5-foot-11, he heads into a roster situation in Trois-Rivières that already includes Anthony Beauregard and Mathias Laferrière for 2026-27.
For the Canadiens’ development system, Orr adds another interesting name to follow. For Orr himself, it’s a first real professional test - and a clear chance to make his mark.

Training camp is about to get a lot less comfortable for a few familiar Canadiens names. With openings tight and young players pushing hard for jobs, Montreal is heading into camp with more competition than usual, and that puts the spotlight on Owen Beck, Arber Xhekaj, Jayden Struble and Samuel Montembeault as they fight to stay in the mix.
Becks path is especially worth watching because Montreal has to decide whether he fits into the clubs long-term plans or becomes part of a bigger roster shuffle. On defense, Xhekaj and Struble are feeling the squeeze too, with David Reinbacher and Adam Engstrom among the prospects pressing for NHL minutes and giving management more options to consider if performances start forcing tough decisions. Canadiens Take A Low-Risk Scoring Bet Fans Will Want To Track
The Canadiens have added another name to their pipeline, signing forward Sasha Pastujov to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season. It is the kind of move Montreal can afford to make with little downside, especially for a player whose path has already included stops in the USHL, OHL and AHL before arriving in the organization.
Pastujov came to the Canadiens from the Anaheim Ducks in the Sean Farrell deal, and the latest step gives Montreal a longer look at a player who has shown an ability to produce at the minor-league level.
