July is here, and that means the college football season is getting close enough to start feeling real. SEC Media Days are coming up fast, set to begin on July 20, and Missouri’s fall schedule already has plenty of people circling the home dates.
FanDuel has the Tigers at 6.5 wins, and that number comes with a schedule that leaves little room for error. The biggest reason for all the attention in Columbia is the home slate, which is loaded with SEC visitors that can swing the season in a hurry.
The first big one comes on October 3, when Missouri hosts Florida for Homecoming. If the Tigers can handle business at Mississippi State in their SEC opener, they’ll have a chance to jump to 2-0 against a Gators team now led by first-year head coach Jon Sumrall.
A week later, Texas A&M rolls into town on October 10. Missouri will be looking for payback after Mike Elko’s Aggies have controlled the last two meetings.
Then comes the heavyweight draw. On November 7, Texas visits Columbia for the first time since 2011, when Missouri stunned the Longhorns 17-5. This time, the attention figures to be even bigger with Arch Manning in the mix as a potential first overall pick.
The regular-season home finale is just as notable. Missouri gets Oklahoma on November 28 for Senior Day, and the Tigers will be trying to make it back-to-back home wins over the Sooners.
It’s the kind of home schedule that can define a season, and Missouri has at least given itself a strong recent foundation at Faurot Field. The Tigers are 20-3 there over the last three seasons, and they’ll need every bit of that home-field edge with sellout crowds expected for this lineup of visitors.
