Mizzou Stuns Fans by Naming Ole Miss Transfer as QB1

Missouri swiftly names Austin Simmons as starting QB, sparking anticipation for the upcoming season.

Missouri's spring practice kicked off with a wide-open quarterback competition, but it didn't take long for the Tigers to settle on their signal-caller. Just two weeks in, Mizzou has named Ole Miss transfer Austin Simmons as their QB1, a decision that aligns with many expectations.

Simmons emerged victorious over contenders Matt Zollers, Nick Evers, and Gavin Sidwar. Zollers, who stepped up last season with 503 passing yards and four touchdowns in relief of Beau Pribula, returned with hopes of leading the team. However, Simmons' arrival signaled a shift, and the talented transfer from Ole Miss was always a strong candidate to take the reins.

Simmons, while possessing only 107 career attempts and a history of injuries, brings a powerful arm and undeniable potential to the table. Missouri is banking on his abilities, especially with the dynamic running back duo of Ahmad Hardy and Jamal Roberts ready to support him in a revamped offense under new coordinator Chip Lindsey.

The decision to name Simmons as the starter might have come sooner than some anticipated, with just 13 practices under his belt. Yet, this lefty quarterback is poised to make his mark, provided he stays healthy.

Missouri fans can look forward to seeing Simmons in action as QB1 when the Tigers kick off their season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday, Sept. 3.
