The full map is finally on the table for Mizzou men’s basketball.
With the SEC releasing its conference schedule Monday, the Tigers now have their complete 31-game regular-season slate for 2026-27, and it looks every bit as demanding as expected for Dennis Gates in his fifth year at the helm. Mizzou comes in at No. 21 in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 after back-to-back NCAA Tournament trips, and the road ahead is loaded again.
The league portion starts Jan. 2 in Fayetteville, where Mizzou will open SEC play at Arkansas. That game doubles as an immediate rematch of last season’s regular-season finale, an 88-84 overtime loss to the Razorbacks. It’s also a first for the Tigers since entering the SEC in 2012-13: Arkansas has never before been their conference opener.
After that trip, the Tigers get Texas A&M and Kentucky at Mizzou Arena to start the new year, then head to Tennessee for a midweek matchup with the Volunteers. Mizzou has shown it can survive a fast start to league play, opening SEC action 3-1 last season after beginning 4-1 the year before, and the upgraded nonconference schedule should leave this group ready for the grind.
The home conference schedule brings heavyweight visits from Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas. On the road, the Tigers will face Florida, Auburn, Texas and Vanderbilt in what shapes up as a brutal travel slate. Mizzou will see Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee twice.
The bye week lands on Feb. 7, a week later than last season, and the closing stretch gets no easier. Four of Mizzou’s final six league games come away from home, with the regular season ending March 6 against LSU in Columbia. The SEC Tournament follows at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville from March 10-14.
Before any of that, Gates has stacked the nonconference schedule with serious tests. Mizzou opens with an exhibition at UNLV, then starts the season against Cleveland State, Gates’ former school, for the second straight year. Early-season matchups with SLU, Marquette, Pittsburgh and Kansas give the Tigers plenty to chew on in the first 10 games.
There are also neutral-site dates with Marquette in Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska in Kansas City, and Illinois and the Billikens in St. Louis. A true road game at Indiana on Dec. 18 adds another chance to build the NCAA Tournament case before SEC play takes over.
The challenge is fitting for the league Mizzou is living in. The SEC has produced more NCAA Tournament bids than any conference over the past two seasons, with 14 teams in 2025 and 10 in 2026.
Eight SEC teams are in ESPN’s preseason top 25, led by No. 1 Florida, with Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Mizzou also making the list.
Game times, TV windows and exact midweek conference dates are still to come, but the outline is clear: Mizzou’s push for a third straight NCAA Tournament berth will run through one of the toughest schedules in the country.
