Mizzou Gymnastics Stuns with Season-Best Score, Eyes Postseason Glory

Mizzou gymnastics shines with a season-high score, setting the stage for an exciting postseason journey.

In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, No. 8 Missouri gymnastics wrapped up its final regular-season quad meet with a season-high score of 197.550 at Mizzou Arena. The Tigers outperformed Air Force (195.675), Illinois (195.450), and Ball State (195.275), showcasing their strength in the closing floor rotation.

Missouri maintained consistent performances across the first three events before pulling away with an impressive finish. The team nailed nine of 18 landings, marking their best stick percentage this season, and delivered a series of 9.900-plus scores on floor to seal the victory.

Head coach Shannon Welker expressed satisfaction with the team's progress, emphasizing the importance of focusing on controllable elements to gear up for the postseason. "It's just a process," Welker noted. "You focus on the controllables, and that's what helps you when you get to the postseason."

Sophomore Railey Jackson set the tone from the start, kicking off the meet with a stellar 9.925 on vault and later tying for the event title on floor. Her performance under pressure was a standout, with Welker praising her ability to excel in critical lineup spots.

Redshirt senior Amy Weir also made waves, earning her first 9.900 on beam since the season opener. Her dedication to improving rhythm and performance presence paid off, reflecting her goal to achieve more nine nines this year.

Missouri's final floor rotation was a testament to their prowess, with multiple gymnasts scoring over 9.900, reaffirming their status as one of the nation's top teams in the event.

Elsewhere, Illinois' Chloe Cho posted a 9.900, keeping the Illini competitive, while Air Force's Maggie Slife shone with a 9.900 on bars. The Falcons also saw strong performances from Kylee Green and Alyssa Bigler, each scoring 9.875 in the opening floor rotation. Ball State's Zoe Middleton and Mary Rose Bellan contributed with impressive scores on floor and bars, respectively.

Emphasizing their depth, Missouri utilized exhibition routines to give additional athletes valuable competition experience. "It's nice to be able to utilize that here on the back part of the season because we're going to need it," Welker commented.

Looking ahead, the Tigers will simulate postseason conditions with a mock double meet in their training facility, mirroring the format of regionals and NCAA Championships. This preparation aims to ensure the team can perform consistently over consecutive days.

Missouri is set to host No. 7 Arkansas on Sunday, March 1 at Hearnes Center, with the first rotation scheduled for 1 p.m. Fans can catch the action streaming live on SEC Network+.
