Good news is trickling in for Mizzou football during the bye week: Austin Simmons is planning to return in 2027, according to a report from Ryan Roberts.
Per a source, Simmons and his family are working toward a return to Missouri, and discussions have already started on what that comeback could look like next season. His parents, who always play a key role in these conversations, want him back for another year.
That would be a major boost for a Tigers offense that has gotten a strong season out of Simmons so far. Through seven games, he has helped push Mizzou to a 5-2 record and a No. 22 ranking.
He’s completed 132 of 209 passes, good for 63.2%, with 1,773 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and two interceptions. That kind of production has also started to create NFL Draft buzz.
Nothing is official yet, but the possibility of getting Simmons back for another season would be a big win for Missouri.
The Tigers also picked up some well-earned national recognition in the middle of the season. The Associated Press released its midseason All-American team, and four Mizzou players made the cut.
Running back Jamal Roberts and linebacker Nicholas Rodriguez were both named first-team selections. Roberts leads the SEC with 867 yards, while Rodriguez leads the league with 76 total tackles.
Cayden Green landed on the second team after not allowing a sack and giving up only three pressures all season. Daeden Hopkins joined him there as well, thanks to 24 pressures and eight sacks.
For all the twists and turns of Mizzou’s season, the record is still sitting where many expected it to be. The 31-3 loss to Ole Miss was a rough night, but through seven games, the Tigers have met expectations record-wise.
Elsewhere around the program, Alex Ackman has become an important voice for a young Mizzou tennis roster. Ackman is the lone player back from last season’s team, which has made the early tournaments especially significant as the group adjusts to competing under a new staff.
On the hoops side, Mizzou is set to visit No. 24 Vanderbilt on Saturday, January 23rd in Nashville.

Mizzous Midseason Honors Confirm Just How Loaded This Roster Is
Midseason honors have a way of confirming what the eye test already suggested, and this week offered another reminder of how much talent is packed into Missouris roster. It was not just football bringing good news around campus, either. Former Mizzou Star Jordan Elliott Faces Career Crossroads After NFL Incident
Jordan Elliotts NFL path hit another rough patch this week after the Tennessee Titans released the former Missouri standout following an incident at the teams practice facility. The situation reportedly began with an altercation involving teammate JC Latham and escalated to the point where Elliot retrieved a gun before John Franklin-Meyers helped de-escalate things.
Titans coach Robert Saleh later framed the episode as a lapse in judgment rather than a criminal act, and said he would be willing to help Elliot land another opportunity. Elliott had signed a two-year deal with Tennessee in the offseason after previous stops with the Browns and 49ers, leaving the 27-year-old once again at a crossroads in a league that has already tested his staying power. Former Mizzou DT Jordan Elliott Is Suddenly Facing Serious NFL Fallout
Jordan Elliotts run with Tennessee ended abruptly after a practice incident that escalated far beyond the usual training-camp friction. The former Missouri defensive tackle, who signed a two-year deal with the Titans in the offseason, was released after an altercation with offensive tackle JC Latham led to Elliott retrieving a firearm, according to the account that emerged from the team.
Veteran defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers stepped in to help calm things down, and the episode was captured on the Titans security cameras. For a player once taken in the third round in 2020, it is a sudden and serious NFL setback, and one that leaves plenty unresolved about what comes next. [Read more 🡒]
