Missouri heads back to Columbia on Saturday for its second home game of the season, and the Tigers get a little extra pageantry with it. Troy comes to Memorial Stadium for the 100th Anniversary Game, and Missouri will mark the occasion by wearing a unique throwback uniform.
The Tigers enter the matchup at 2-0 after opening the year with a 54-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff and then handling Kansas 38-21 in the latest Border War meeting. That win in Lawrence gave Missouri another strong showing on both sides of the ball, with quarterback Austin Simmons continuing to settle in quickly in his second game as a Tiger.
He finished 19 of 29 for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Jamal Roberts powered the run game with 125 yards and a score, while Donovan Olugbode and Cayden Lee each topped 120 receiving yards and found the end zone.
Troy arrives in Columbia with a 2-0 record as well. The Trojans beat Alabama State 34-17 last time out after opening their season with a 24-21 win over Sam Houston.
The teams last met on Oct. 5, 2019, when Missouri beat Troy 42-10 in Columbia.
Through two games, Missouri’s offensive leaders have already put up eye-catching numbers. Simmons has thrown for 544 yards and seven touchdowns, while Olugbode has 228 receiving yards and three touchdowns. On the Troy side, Goose Crowder has passed for 366 yards and four touchdowns, and Jaheim Merriweather has rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns.
Saturday is Missouri’s final nonconference game of the season, and both teams will be trying to stretch their wins to three straight and stay unbeaten. After Troy, Missouri turns to SEC play on the road against Mississippi State on Sept. 26.
