Missouri May Be Without Ahmad Hardy Longer Than Fans Expected

Mizzou fans grapple with uncertainty as star running back Ahmad Hardy's recovery delays shake up the team's early season outlook.

Ahmad Hardy will be unavailable for at least the first week of Mizzou’s 2026 season, and Eli Drinkwitz isn’t ready to put a timetable on anything beyond that.

That much is clear after Drinkwitz said he wants to see Hardy get two full weeks of practice at full speed before the Tigers even think about putting him in a game.

“Does that mean mid-September? I don’t know.

Does it mean mid-October? I don’t know,” [Drinkwitz] said, “I need a two-week fully invested, being able to practice at full speed, before we consider playing him in a game.

And I’m not there yet.”

Hardy’s absence isn’t exactly shocking. He’s still working back from a gunshot wound, and while there was some optimism after he was medically cleared earlier this summer, the next step is actually getting him through real football work. Until that happens, Mizzou is proceeding cautiously.

The good news for Missouri is that Jamal Roberts is back. He’s probably the best backup running back in all of college football, which gives the Tigers a real safety net if Hardy misses time.

Still, Hardy isn’t just any player. He’s an All-American back, and losing someone like that changes the picture.

One missed game is already on the books, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be ready the following week against kansas. A longer stretch away from the field is still very much in play, and it could end up being 4-6 weeks without Hardy.

So the question for Missouri fans is simple: how worried are you? That’s what SB Nation Reacts is asking this week - whether the fan base is feeling nervous about a potentially extended Hardy absence, or staying calm and collected.

Kevin Coleman Jr. Is Giving Missouri Fans A Reason To Watch Miami

Kevin Coleman Jr. is already giving Missouri fans a reason to keep one eye on Miami. The former Tigers receiver has worked his way back to full practice activities after dealing with injuries, and in a recent session he turned heads by catching two touchdown passes, a reminder of the playmaking burst that made him such an intriguing name in Columbia.

Coleman also got into the Dolphins preseason game against the Giants and finished with two receptions for 32 yards, which only adds to the sense that he is pushing for a bigger opportunity. For Missouri fans, it is the kind of update that travels well beyond the football program, even as the schools soccer team absorbed a 1-0 loss to Missouri State in its home opener despite outshooting the opponent and setting a program attendance record. Former Mizzou Star Mark Mitchell Just Opened A Surprising Next Chapter

Mark Mitchells next step in college basketball is now official enough to keep the paperwork moving, after a Kentucky judge granted the former Missouri forward a temporary restraining order that allows him to play a fifth season and transfer to Kentucky. For a player who already spent time at Duke and then Missouri, the ruling opens the door to one more run at the college level after a summer that included a stint with the Denver Nuggets in Summer League.

Mitchell was not drafted, but he now has a path back into the spotlight with the Wildcats as he prepares for the upcoming season. The legal wrinkle makes his arrival a little different from a standard transfer, and it leaves his immediate future tied to how the situation continues to unfold even as Kentucky plans as if he will be eligible to compete.
