Steve Sarkisian Just Framed Mississippi State As A Serious SEC Threat

Despite recent setbacks, Mississippi State earns admiration from Steve Sarkisian for their strong start and resilient strategies heading into the anticipated clash with Texas.

Steve Sarkisian isn’t taking Mississippi State lightly, even with the Bulldogs dealing with injuries and a three-game skid heading into Week 9.

Texas got what it needed last week, holding off Ole Miss 34-27 at home after watching a 24-3 lead slip away. It was the kind of win the Longhorns had to have after dropping two straight, and now they’ll try to build on it against Mississippi State.

That challenge comes against a team that opened the year 4-0 before running into a rough stretch against Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma. Sarkisian pointed first to what Mississippi State already proved early in the season.

“They got off to a tremendous start this season. You think about their ability,” Steve Sarkisian said.

“Minnesota turned out to be a pretty good football team, and their ability to win at Minnesota. South Carolina turned out to be a pretty good football team.

Their ability to win at South Carolina. Missouri turned out to be a pretty good football team, beating that Missouri team.

Obviously, they’ve gotten hit with the injury bug here a little bit, but they’ve still got very talented players.”

One of those injuries is Kamario Taylor, who could be out for the rest of the year. Fluff Bothwell has also missed time, adding to the list of setbacks Mississippi State has had to absorb.

Even so, Sarkisian made it clear he expects a sharp, difficult opponent on Saturday.

“They’ve got really good schemes on offense and defense,” Sarkisian said. “I have a ton of respect for Coach [Jeff] Lebby and Coach [Zach] Arnett and what they do on offense and defense.

It’s a little unique. They challenge you from a preparation standpoint.

I think they play with a lot of belief. We felt that last year when we were there at Starkville.

I’m sure they’re going to give us all they got Saturday night here at DKR.”

Texas enters the matchup with little margin for more mistakes. With two losses already and road games still looming against Missouri and LSU, the Longhorns need to handle business against Mississippi State on Saturday.

Texas Fans May Not Expect How Reachable This Halloween Game Feels

Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium was spoken for before the season even began, with all of Texas 2026 home games sold out for a fifth straight year. Still, a trip to see Mississippi State in Austin does not come with the kind of sticker shock many fans might expect for a sold-out game, since the only way in now is through resale sites such as SeatGeek, TickPick, StubHub and Vivid Seats.

For a Halloween matchup, the market has stayed comparatively reachable against other Texas dates and even some Mississippi State games, making this one of the more accessible big-ticket options on the schedule. Prices are all over the place depending on the platform and the seat, but for fans hoping to make the trip, there is at least a path into a game that might otherwise have looked out of reach. Mississippi State Offense Faces A Brutal Test After Major QB Blow

Mississippi State is heading into a difficult matchup with Texas already staring at a steep analytics hill, and the timing could not be much worse for an offense trying to steady itself. Multiple football models lean heavily toward the Longhorns, with the forecast picture showing a clear gap in where the two teams sit entering the week.

The Bulldogs also have to move forward without Kamario Taylor, whose season was ended by surgery, according to Jeff Lebby. On the other side, Steve Sarkisian acknowledged Texas is dealing with injuries of its own, but the Longhorns still just won while managing those issues, which only sharpens the challenge Mississippi State is about to face. Mississippi State's Upset Chances Just Got Tied To Two Texas Stars

Mississippi State heads to Austin on Saturday night facing a Texas team that still has plenty on the line, and the Longhorns availability report adds a layer of intrigue to what was already a difficult road assignment. With College Football Playoff hopes still in play, Texas is trying to stack another win, while the Bulldogs will be watching closely to see how the Longhorns line up on both sides of the ball.

One of the biggest names in that conversation is receiver Cam Coleman, who appears on track after leaving the Ole Miss game with a shoulder injury. On the other side, edge rusher Colin Simmons is less certain after dealing with a high ankle sprain suffered against Florida, and his status could matter as Texas tries to protect its postseason position in front of a home crowd.
