Mississippi State’s Halloween trip to Texas now has a kickoff time, and the Bulldogs will face the Longhorns under the lights.
The SEC announced that Mississippi State will play No. 18 Texas at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 in Austin. The game will air on ABC or ESPN.
The Bulldogs enter the matchup 4-2 overall and 2-2 in SEC play. Texas is 4-2 and 1-2 in conference action.
Before the trip to Austin, Mississippi State will be back home for Oklahoma on Oct. 24.
That game is set for 2:30 p.m. on SEC Network. Texas, meanwhile, hosts Ole Miss that same night at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.
This will be the third straight season Mississippi State and Texas have met since the Longhorns joined the SEC. Texas has won both previous meetings, including a 17-point comeback at Davis Wade Stadium last season.
Arch Manning is Texas’ quarterback, but the Longhorns’ offense has hit a rough stretch, with consecutive losses to Oklahoma and Florida. Texas’ four wins have come against Texas State, Ohio State, UTSA and Tennessee.
Mississippi State’s last victory over Texas came in 1992.
After the Texas game, the Bulldogs will have just one more road assignment left: the Egg Bowl at Ole Miss on Nov. 27.

Kamario Taylor's Return Could Change Everything For Mississippi State
Mississippi State has spent the last two weeks finding out just how much Kamario Taylor has meant to its early-season surge. The quarterback has already piled up 1,450 yards and 17 touchdowns through five games, production that has helped push him into the conversation near the top of On3s latest Heisman Trophy poll even as the Bulldogs have had to navigate a stretch without him.
Taylors turf toe injury has complicated everything, because the Bulldogs have dropped their last two games without their leader under center. His status for the upcoming matchup with Oklahoma looms large, not just for Mississippi States momentum but for whether his breakout season can keep building in the national spotlight. [Read more 🡒]
Mississippi States Halloween Trip To Texas Just Got More Real
Mississippi States late-October trip to Austin now has a little more shape to it, with the Bulldogs Week 9 meeting at Texas falling on Halloween night. The SEC matchup is set for the final day of October and will be televised nationally, giving the Bulldogs another spotlight game as they move through a closing stretch that also includes a home date with Oklahoma and the Egg Bowl at Ole Miss.
It also adds another layer to a series that has already become familiar fast, with Texas and Mississippi State meeting in each of the last three seasons since the Longhorns entered the SEC. For the Bulldogs, it is the kind of game that can help define the back half of the schedule, and the road trip will carry even more weight once the calendar flips to the end of the month. Jaray Bledsoe Is Giving Mississippi State Fans A Real SEC Debate
Jaray Bledsoe has been one of the more interesting parts of Mississippi States early defensive picture this season, the kind of fifth-year interior lineman who can change the feel of a drive with a burst through the gap or a quick finish in the backfield. The Bulldogs have needed that sort of presence amid recent struggles on defense, and Bledsoes combination of experience and disruptive ability has given him a chance to stand out in a conference where proven defensive tackles rarely go unnoticed.
Still, the SEC is a tough place to claim status, and Bledsoes case is still being built week by week. He has shown enough physical tools and made enough impactful plays to get people talking, but the real test is whether he can keep that level going over the rest of the season and turn a strong start into something that holds up in a crowded league conversation.
