Florida State is heading into its trip to Miami with one fewer name on the roster and one fewer blue-chip prospect in the long view.
Freshman cornerback Chuck Kennon, the highest-rated signee in the Seminoles’ 2026 class, has been dismissed from the program, a university spokesman confirmed Tuesday. The school cited “conduct detrimental to the team,” and Kennon is no longer listed on the official roster. Florida State did not provide any additional explanation.
Kennon’s departure lands at a rough moment for a 3-3 team already trying to steady itself under seventh-year head coach Mike Norvell. The Seminoles head to unbeaten Miami on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN, and the timing only sharpens the spotlight around a program that has already taken plenty of hits this fall.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back from Booker High School arrived with real pedigree. He was Florida State’s only top-100 recruit in the class, and the 247Sports Composite ranked him No. 41 nationally and the No. 3 cornerback in the country. Norvell’s staff beat out Georgia, Florida, Miami and LSU for his commitment in July 2025, and Kennon stayed firm even as uncertainty around the head coach’s future intensified during his senior year.
“I’m a Seminole fan at the end of the day. I love Florida State. No matter the coaching staff, I feel like I’d still be where I’m at,” Kennon said.
Florida State had hoped there might be a path for him to contribute quickly. Defensive coordinator Tony White said earlier this year that Kennon had a chance to work into the rotation as a freshman, and cornerbacks coach Blue Adams offered praise during preseason camp.
“He’s young, he’s energetic,” Adams said. “Sometimes you’ve got to tell him, ‘Hey, focus up.
We’re going this direction.’ But he’s coachable.
That’s what I like about him.”
That role never really came together. Kennon did not dress for games early in the season and logged just one snap in the Seminoles’ 38-7 win over Virginia on Oct. 3.
For Florida State’s defense, the dismissal does not change much in the immediate game plan. Kennon had barely seen the field. But it does take away a player the program had viewed as a long-term piece, and it comes on the heels of a harsh night in Louisville.
The Seminoles were crushed 44-20 by the Cardinals last Friday, a week after White’s defense piled up 10 sacks against Virginia, the program’s most since 1997. Against Louisville, that same unit surrendered 397 rushing yards, including 235 on 17 carries by Isaac Brown.
“Too many times, we didn’t show the detail, the discipline, the mental toughness that’s necessary on the road. And it starts with me,” Norvell said after the loss.
The defeat stretched Florida State’s road losing streak, which dates to 2023, and kept Norvell in the latest college football hot seat index. For now, the Seminoles move on without Kennon and with plenty still hanging over them as they head to Miami.

Anthony Evans III Has Mississippi State Watching One Big Record Chase
Anthony Evans III has put Mississippi State in position to watch a record chase unfold over the rest of the season. The sophomore receiver has openly targeted the Bulldogs single-season receiving yards mark, and his start has given that goal real weight. Through five games, Evans has become one of the most productive targets on the roster, piling up catches, yards and touchdowns while giving Jeff Lebbys offense a dependable downfield threat.
What has stood out around the program is how Evans has gotten there. Lebby has pointed to his work ethic, while teammate Sanfrisco Magee has praised the consistency that has made Evans such a steady presence week after week. With seven regular-season games still to play, Mississippi State has a receiver who is not just chasing history but doing it in a way that keeps the conversation alive every time he lines up. Mississippi State Just Got A Harsh LSU Warning Before Kickoff
The line for LSUs matchup with Mississippi State has moved sharply as kickoff approaches, a sign that the market has grown more skeptical about the Bulldogs chances. LSU opened as roughly a 10.5-point favorite, but that number has climbed to 14.5, with Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylors status hanging over the game and shaping how oddsmakers and bettors view the matchup.
For Mississippi State, the concern is obvious: if Taylor cannot go, the Bulldogs offense becomes much harder to project against an LSU defense that already has a strong edge in the matchup. LSU is also coming off an upset loss, which only adds to the urgency around how it responds, but the bigger question for the Bulldogs is whether they can keep the game competitive if their quarterback situation remains unsettled. Mississippi State Needs Recruiting Momentum Back For Chris Jans
Mississippi States recruiting picture for the 2027 class remains thin as the program keeps working to reset the conversation around Chris Jans and the Bulldogs future. With the staff already looking ahead to the 2026-27 campaign, the push on the trail matters even more after a challenging 2025-26 season, because momentum there can change how the next phase of the roster takes shape.
For now, the class is anchored by combo guard Jacques Mitchell, while the Bulldogs continue to chase top-end talent to build around him. Among the names on the board are five-star prospects A.J. Williams and Lewis Uvwo, and landing either would go a long way toward giving Mississippi State the kind of recruiting boost it needs as Jans tries to get the program back on firmer footing.
