Ole Miss’s trip to Texas now has a kickoff time and a television window.
The No. 10 Rebels, 4-1 overall and 2-1 in SEC play, will face No.
6 Texas on Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. on ABC, the SEC announced Oct. 12.
Texas enters at 4-1 and 1-1 in conference play.
The matchup is shaping up as one of the bigger games on the schedule for both teams. Texas dropped from No. 1 in the US LBM Poll on Oct. 11 after its loss to Oklahoma, and the game could have College Football Playoff implications.
There’s also a familiar family connection on the other sideline. Texas quarterback Arch Manning is the nephew of former Ole Miss quarterback Eli Manning and the grandson of former Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning.
History favors Texas in the series overall. Ole Miss is 2-6 all time against the Longhorns, though the Rebels won the most recent meeting, beating Texas 44-23 on the road in 2013.
Before that October showdown, Ole Miss has another SEC date on deck. The Rebels host Missouri on Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. on SEC Network, then head to Austin the following week.

Mississippi State Faces A Real QB Decision Heading Into LSU
Jeff Lebby brought in AJ Swann for a reason. The veteran transfer arrived with SEC starting experience and was supposed to give Mississippi State experienced depth behind Kamario Taylor, but the Bulldogs recent trip to Alabama offered a different glimpse at the backup picture. When Taylor left the game and the staff needed a replacement, it was redshirt freshman Parker Puckett who got the first look instead of Swann, a detail that adds another layer to a quarterback room already trying to settle itself.
Now Mississippi State heads toward LSU with no clear answer on who would take over if Taylor cannot go. Lebby has listed Puckett and Swann as co-backups, and the uncertainty matters because the Bulldogs need a plan they can trust if the starter is unavailable. For a team trying to stay steady in SEC play, the quarterback depth chart is suddenly one of the more closely watched decisions on the board. [Read more 🡒]
LSU Can Expose Mississippi States Biggest Offensive Problem
Mississippi State heads into its matchup with LSU trying to sort out more than just an opponent. The Bulldogs are dealing with uncertainty at quarterback after the injury to Will Rogers, and that only adds to an offense already searching for answers on the ground. For a team that has leaned on the passing game, the timing is not ideal, especially with LSU also trying to clean up its own defensive issues.
The coaching staffs have plenty to work through in the lead-up, but Mississippi States biggest concern is obvious: how to create enough balance to keep LSU from pinning its ears back. If the Bulldogs cannot threaten the Tigers with a more effective run game, they could spend the night asking their quarterback situation to do too much. How Mississippi State chooses to handle that challenge may end up saying as much about the game as the score itself. [Read more 🡒]
Mississippi State Just Saw LSUs Weak Spot But One Problem Looms
Mississippi State heads into its meeting with LSU with a fresh film session and a clear takeaway from the Tigers overtime loss to Kentucky: there are openings to be found if the Bulldogs can stay disciplined and finish. LSU showed enough cracks in that game to give Jeff Lebbys staff a roadmap, but this kind of matchup usually rewards the team that can stack clean snaps, avoid wasted possessions and make the other side pay when it slips.
The problem for Mississippi State is that the Bulldogs still have their own question hanging over the week, and it is a big one. The quarterback situation remains unsettled, which complicates everything about how the offense is built and how aggressively it can attack LSUs weaknesses. If Mississippi State is going to turn LSUs recent stumble into something useful, it may have to do it across multiple phases while waiting for the final word on a position that shapes the whole plan.
