Mississippi States Final SEC Home Stretch Just Got More Real

Mississippi State gears up for a high-stakes SEC showdown against Auburn, with both teams looking to make a statement in their longstanding rivalry.

Mississippi State’s final SEC home game of the season now has a kickoff time, and the Bulldogs will see Auburn early.

The Nov. 14 matchup at Davis Wade Stadium is set for 11 a.m. and will air on either ESPN or ESPN2. Mississippi State enters the game at 4-4 overall and 2-4 in SEC play.

Before Auburn comes to Starkville, the Bulldogs will host Vanderbilt on Nov. 7 at 3:15 p.m. on SEC Network. Auburn, also 4-4 and 2-4 in the league, plays Arkansas that same morning at 11:45 a.m. on SEC Network.

This will be the first meeting between Mississippi State and Auburn since 2023, when the Bulldogs fell 27-13 on the road. The last time Auburn visited Starkville, Mississippi State pulled out a 39-33 overtime win in 2022.

Auburn is in its first season under coach Alex Golesh, who was hired after Hugh Freeze was fired. The Tigers’ wins have come against Georgia, Baylor, Vanderbilt and Southern Miss, while their losses have been against Ole Miss, LSU, Florida and Tennessee.

Byrum Brown is Auburn’s quarterback after transferring from USF when Golesh was hired.

After Auburn, Mississippi State still has two games left on the schedule: Tennessee Tech and Ole Miss.

Mississippi States Quarterback Crisis Just Became Far More Urgent

Mississippi States quarterback room has gone from unsettled to alarmingly thin in a hurry. Kamario Taylor is already out for the season, and AJ Swann had stepped in after Parker Puckett before the latest turn left the Bulldogs scrambling again. It has been a rough stretch for the offense as the losing streak has dragged on, and the lack of continuity at the games most important position has shown up in the production.

For the coaching staff, the issue is no longer just about getting through the next game. It is about sorting out who can handle the job now, while also trying to figure out what the position looks like for the rest of the season and beyond. With the offense sliding and the depth chart in flux, every snap at quarterback carries more weight than it did a few weeks ago. [Read more 🡒]

Jeff Lebby Pressure Is Growing After Mississippi State's Latest Slide

Mississippi States season has gone from promising to precarious in a hurry, with a 4-0 start giving way to four straight losses and all the familiar questions that tend to follow a slide like this. The Bulldogs have been dealing with a battered roster, too, as injuries have hit key players including quarterbacks Kamario Taylor and AJ Swann, leaving the offense searching for any kind of rhythm while the losses keep piling up.

For Jeff Lebby, the concern is not just the current skid but the way it echoes the broader arc of his tenure, where early momentum has too often been followed by trouble. There is already speculation around whether the program could eventually look in another direction, with potential candidates being discussed in the background, but for now there has been no official move and no clear sign of what comes next. Baylor Fans Have Another Reason To Watch Sawyer Robertson

Sawyer Robertson is getting another pro opportunity, this time with the Colorado Stampede of the United Football League as the expansion club prepares for its inaugural 2027 season. The former Baylor quarterback, who also spent part of his college career at Mississippi State, built a productive rsum in college and now has a new stage to try to turn that into a longer professional run.

Robertson reached the Stampede after a showcase tryout, adding another stop to a winding post-college path. He had already gotten a look from the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent before being cut, and now he will compete for playing time in Colorado as the team starts assembling its first roster.
