Mississippi State left Saturday’s loss to Alabama with more than a lopsided final score to sort through. Quarterback Kamario Taylor exited in the fourth quarter, and after the Bulldogs’ 56-23 defeat was complete, Jeff Lebby offered only a brief update on his starter.
Lebby said Taylor is day-to-day and stopped short of giving a fuller timeline. He also made it clear the next real checkpoint will come when Mississippi State releases its injury report on Wednesday ahead of the LSU game.
Mississippi State QB Kamario Taylor is day-to-day, per Jeff Lebby. "We'll let the injury report that Wednesday of LSU speak to where we're at."
Lebby raved about Taylor's toughness to give himself a chance to play vs. Alabama.
He injured his lower-leg vs. Missouri last week.

Taylor’s night was uneven even before he left. He finished with a season-low 55.9% completion rate, connecting on 19 of 34 throws, and he was picked off twice. Still, he also found the end zone three times and piled up 258 passing yards.
That touchdown total pushed Taylor into a notable SEC run: he became the first quarterback in the league to throw at least three touchdown passes in five straight games since Jayden Daniels did it at LSU in 2023, the same season Daniels won the Heisman Trophy.
Mississippi State now has a week off in Week 6, giving Taylor time to recover before the Bulldogs return to action against No. 11 LSU on Oct. 17 in Baton Rouge.

Kamario Taylors Eyeblack Message Means More Than Mississippi State Fans Knew
Kamario Taylor has found a simple way to carry a piece of home onto the field every time he plays. The Mississippi State quarterback wears eyeblack marked 283 Baby, and the number is a nod to Baptist Hill Chapel, the Macon, Mississippi neighborhood where he grew up. It is the kind of detail that can slip by in a fast-moving game, but it gives a fuller picture of the player wearing it.
For Taylor, the message is less about decoration than identity. It serves as a quiet tribute to the place that shaped him and a reminder of where he came from even as he steps into a bigger spotlight at Mississippi State. In a sport full of personalized gear and small rituals, this one carries a local connection Bulldogs fans can appreciate, because it says something about the quarterback before he ever takes a snap. LSU Just Got Another Reminder How Brutal The SEC Has Become
Missouris 45-17 rout of Florida was the kind of result that ripples well beyond Columbia, another reminder that there are no easy Saturdays left anywhere in the SEC. Austin Simmons carved up the Gators for 340 yards and two touchdowns, Jamal Roberts powered the ground game with 211 rushing yards and three scores, and the Tigers delivered their first home win against a top-10 opponent in 16 years.
For teams like Mississippi State watching the league landscape, it only sharpens the sense that every week can turn into a survival test. Eli Drinkwitz pointed to the conferences grind and the need to bounce back after losses, and Missouris latest statement fits right into that theme, with Florida paying the price this time and the rest of the SEC left to sort out what it means when a home field result can change the conversation so quickly. Alabama Defense Just Put A Star Quarterback Through A Brutal Night
Kamario Taylors latest outing was a rough one for Mississippi State, and Alabamas defense had plenty to do with it. In the loss, Taylor completed 55.9 percent of his passes and was held to negative rushing yards, a hard night for a quarterback who has been asked to carry so much of the offense.
Taylors evening got even tougher early in the fourth quarter when he was injured and did not return, leaving Billy Puckett to finish the game. For Mississippi State, the bigger concern now is how quickly Taylor can bounce back, because this offense has looked far more dangerous when he is available and in rhythm. [Read more 🡒]
