Wild Recall Tyler Pitlick After Key Player's Sudden Injury Shakes Lineup

In response to Joel Eriksson Ek's injury, the Wild call up seasoned forward Tyler Pitlick, marking his third AHL recall as he prepares to step into a crucial fourth-line role.

The Minnesota Wild are making strategic moves in response to Joel Eriksson Ek's recent injury against Utah. With Eriksson Ek sidelined, the Wild have called up Tyler Pitlick from AHL Iowa to bolster their forward depth.

Pitlick’s season has been a rollercoaster of movement. This marks his third recall from Iowa, and he’s cleared waivers three times.

The 34-year-old has seen action in 31 games with Minnesota this season, though he’s been held to just two goals. Despite limited ice time-averaging under eight minutes per game-he’s made his presence felt with 76 hits.

In the AHL, however, Pitlick has been a different player. He’s tallied eight goals and three assists in just 12 games with Iowa, showcasing his offensive prowess. Yet, if he slots into Minnesota’s lineup, expect him to fill a fourth-line role, focusing on energy and physicality rather than scoring.

Eriksson Ek’s injury came from a high stick near the eye on Friday. Reports suggest he’ll be evaluated today, and while he’s not expected to play against St.

Louis on Sunday, the outlook is optimistic for a quick return. His absence is significant, as Eriksson Ek ranks third on the team with 17 goals and 25 assists in 54 games.

The Wild had an open roster spot after sending David Spacek back to Iowa, allowing them to bring up Pitlick without needing a corresponding move. This adjustment brings their roster to the maximum of 23 healthy players, ensuring they have the depth needed to navigate Eriksson Ek’s temporary absence.
