The Wild found themselves in a tough spot against the Bruins, ultimately falling 6-3 at TD Garden. Returning home from their road trip with just one win and two losses, the Wild's recent form sees them dropping six of their last nine games. A win on Saturday could have secured a playoff spot, but that celebration will have to wait.
Mats Zuccarello summed it up perfectly: "One of those games you feel like every little mistake you make costs you big. That’s hockey sometimes."
The game started rough for the Wild, trailing 3-0 before Kirill Kaprizov got them on the board late in the second period. Down 4-1, they seized a golden opportunity with a full two-minute 5-on-3 power play in the third, leading to a goal from Zuccarello.
Ryan Hartman then added to the tension, scoring with 6:17 left, making it a nail-biter. However, Boston's Pavel Zacha tipped in his second goal with just over three minutes to go, and Elias Lindholm sealed it with an empty-netter.
Reflecting on the game, Zuccarello noted, “First period they were all over us, and then in the second and third I think we came back to our game. Unfortunately, couldn’t get the two points.”
The Bruins saw contributions from Andrew Peeke and Viktor Arvidsson, while Eden Prairie native and former Gopher Casey Mittelstadt shone with three assists.
The Wild will need to regroup as they head back home, still eyeing that playoff berth.
