The Wild are getting a pair of familiar veterans back in the lineup tonight against Tampa Bay, with both Marcus Foligno and Nick Foligno activated off injured reserve, according to the NHL’s media site.
To make the roster fit, Minnesota sent forward Mason Shaw back to AHL Iowa, the team announced.
Marcus Foligno has been out for just under a month with a lower-body injury. Before getting hurt, the 35-year-old had a quiet start offensively, going scoreless in his first four games while piling up 13 hits.
He’s coming off the least productive scoring season of his career, finishing with eight goals and five assists in 53 games, but his value goes well beyond the box score. Minnesota will be leaning on that edge again, especially with Michael McCarron’s status uncertain after he left last night’s game early because of an injury.
Nick Foligno is back after missing more than four weeks with an upper-body issue. The 39-year-old is in his first full season with Minnesota after arriving at the trade deadline and then re-signing this summer.
Before the injury, he had scored once in three games while averaging a little under 10 minutes of ice time per night. He’s more of a depth piece at this point, but he gives head coach John Hynes another option on the fourth line.
Shaw has been bouncing between Minnesota and Iowa as injury insurance, and this latest move keeps that pattern going. The 28-year-old has been recalled three times in the last two weeks, but he still hasn’t appeared in a game for the Wild in 2025-26.
His last NHL action came in the 2023-24 season. In the meantime, he’s been producing at Iowa, where he has four goals and six assists in 11 games this season.

Wild Waste Big Night From Maxim Shabanov In Painful Collapse
Maxim Shabanov gave Minnesota exactly the kind of burst it needed, scoring twice as the Wild built a lead and looked poised to keep their point streak rolling. The effort fit the way this group has been grinding through a strong stretch, and for most of the night it seemed like the Wild had done enough to turn a solid home result into another step forward.
Instead, Tampa Bay kept pressing and found a way to flip the game late, with Jake Guentzel driving the comeback before Nikita Kucherov finished it in overtime on the power play for a 4-3 Lightning win. For Minnesota, it was a painful reminder that even a night with a breakout performance and another point in the standings can still end with plenty of frustration. [Read more 🡒]
Predators May Be Closer Than Expected To A Key Prospect Boost
The Wild are still sorting through their own health picture, with goaltender Filip Gustavsson inching toward a possible return from hip surgery and center Michael McCarron dealing with an injury after a recent contest. Gustavssons next checkpoint comes with a doctors appointment on Nov. 17, a date that could help clarify when Minnesota gets one of its top netminders back in the crease.
McCarrons status adds another layer of uncertainty for a team that has been juggling lineup decisions around injuries. He is questionable for the upcoming game after getting hurt in the recent matchup, leaving the Wild to wait on another update while they manage a stretch where even small changes can ripple through the roster. Bill Guerin Faces A Wild Problem He Cant Ignore With Quinn Hughes
Minnesotas strong start has done little to quiet the noise around Quinn Hughes, whose contract extension talks still have not moved much despite the defensemans steady play. For Bill Guerin, the situation is turning into one of those front-office decisions that can shape a season long after the standings settle in, because a player performing well while his future remains unsettled forces a team to think beyond the next game.
Hughes has sounded upbeat about the possibility of getting a deal done, but optimism alone does not solve the bigger question facing the Wild. Guerin has to decide whether Hughes fits into the long-term picture or whether the organization needs to protect itself by considering a trade path, and the longer this drags on, the more the pressure builds around a player Minnesota clearly values.
