Shesterkin Stuns With 46 Saves as Rangers Extend Winning Streak

Igor Shesterkin's stellar 46-save performance keeps the New York Rangers on a winning streak despite intense pressure from the Minnesota Wild.

Igor Shesterkin was a brick wall for the New York Rangers, stopping an impressive 46 shots, while Vladislav Gavrikov chipped in with a goal and two assists, helping the Rangers secure a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild. This win extends their streak to four games, showcasing their resilience even when outshot 48-18.

Noah Laba, Jaroslav Chmelar, and Vincent Trocheck also found the back of the net for New York. Despite the lopsided shot count, the Rangers have now won five of their last six games, proving that efficiency can sometimes trump volume.

The Wild, on the other hand, are struggling, having lost three of their last four games. Matt Boldy and Danila Yurov provided the goals for Minnesota, but it wasn't enough to overcome Shesterkin's stellar performance. Filip Gustavsson managed 14 saves for the Wild.

The game started with New York taking a 9-6 shot advantage in the first period, jumping to a 2-0 lead. The Wild dominated the shot clock for the rest of the game, particularly in the third period with a 21-1 advantage, but couldn't break through Shesterkin's defenses.

Laba kicked things off with a power-play goal early in the first, his ninth of the season, assisted by Gabe Perreault and Gavrikov. Gavrikov then added his own goal with five minutes left in the first period.

Minnesota came out strong in the second, quickly cutting the deficit with Boldy's power-play goal, his 38th of the season, tying him with Kirill Kaprizov for the team lead. Quinn Hughes added his 61st assist, while Gustavsson notched his second.

Chmelar restored New York's two-goal cushion midway through the second period. Just 22 seconds later, Gavrikov's shot created chaos in front of the net, allowing Trocheck to score on a deflection.

The Wild's rookie, Danila Yurov, tried to spark a comeback with his 10th goal of the season in the third, but that was as close as they would get.

J.T. Miller made his return to the Rangers' lineup after a five-game absence due to an upper-body injury. On a milestone note, Minnesota's captain Jared Spurgeon celebrated his 1,000th game, while Bobby Brink missed his second consecutive game.
