NHL free agency has already thinned out the board, but a few familiar names with Minnesota Wild ties are still waiting for their next deal.
Among the former Wild players still unsigned are Vladimir Tarasenko, Cam Talbot, John Klingberg and Carson Soucy. Two weeks into free agency, plenty of the top unrestricted free agents have already landed new contracts, but these four remain available.
Tarasenko is coming off a strong bounce-back year with Minnesota in 2025-26 and still hasn’t signed. He played 75 games for the Wild and finished with 23 goals and 47 points, a sharp step up from the 11 goals and 33 points he put up in 80 games with the Detroit Red Wings in 2024-25. The two-time Stanley Cup champion could still appeal to teams in need of scoring.
Talbot is also on the market after a rough 2025-26 season with Detroit. He appeared in 34 games and posted an .883 save percentage with a 3.19 goals-against average.
Even so, the 39-year-old has been more reliable for most of his recent career, finishing with a .900 save percentage or better in five of his previous six seasons. His run with Minnesota from 2020-21 through 2021-22 was especially strong, as he went 51-20-9 with a .913 save percentage and a 2.71 goals-against average in 82 games.
Klingberg may be the most notable defenseman still left unsigned. The 33-year-old had a productive season with the San Jose Sharks, putting up 10 goals and 27 points in 56 games.
For teams wanting more offense from the blue line, he remains a clear option. He also spent 17 games with the Wild during the 2022-23 season, finishing with two goals and nine points.
Soucy rounds out the group and brings a different kind of appeal. At 6-foot-4, he offers size and depth on the back end, and he logged five goals, 12 points and 105 hits in 76 games last season between the New York Rangers and New York Islanders. Over three seasons with Minnesota, he recorded eight goals, 23 assists, 31 points and 135 hits in 108 games.

Wild Just Got Another Reason To Love The Blake Coleman Trade
The Wilds move for Blake Coleman looks even better in light of how the market for him unfolded. Minnesota landed the veteran winger from Calgary in a deal that included salary retention, a setup that made the contract workable for a club trying to stay nimble while adding a proven two-way forward.
Dallas was also in the mix for Coleman, but the Stars could not get the trade across the finish line as their own cap picture tightened. With Mavrik Bourque already moved and an arbitration hearing looming for Jason Robertson, the Stars were in no position to keep pushing, which left Minnesota with a cleaner path to one of the more practical additions of the summer. Wild Suddenly Face A Bigger Quinn Hughes Question Than Expected
The Quinn Hughes situation in Minnesota has taken on a new layer of intrigue, even as the defensemans arrival last year already gave the Wild a major jolt. Recent chatter around the league suggests the clubs interest may not stop with one Hughes brother, and the speculation has only grown because of uncertainty about where Quinns long-term future is headed.
There is still a big gap between rumor and reality here. A blockbuster swing for Jack Hughes would be a massive undertaking for any team, and the combination of his contract and the price New Jersey would ask makes it hard to see Minnesota getting far down that road. Still, the fact that the conversation is happening at all says plenty about how the Wild view their current window and how much they want to settle the Quinn Hughes question for good. [Read more 🡒]
