The University of Massachusetts' star forward, Jack Musa, has made a bold decision that’s turning heads across the hockey world. Despite significant interest from NHL teams, including the Boston Bruins, Musa has chosen to return to Amherst for his senior season. This move, reported by Mark Divver of the New England Hockey Journal, showcases Musa’s commitment to his collegiate team, the Minutemen, for the 2026-27 NCAA season.
Musa’s decision is particularly intriguing given his impressive stats. The undrafted 22-year-old has been a powerhouse on the ice, amassing 46 goals and 100 points over 111 games, with a notable +40 rating since his debut in the 2023-24 season. This past season, he led the team with 16 goals and 36 points in just 34 games.
As Musa gears up for his senior year, he’s on the brink of making history. With his current scoring pace, he stands a strong chance of breaking the school’s all-time scoring records.
Currently, Bobby Trivigno holds the fourth spot with 131 points, a milestone Musa is poised to surpass. However, catching up to Warren Norris’ 155-point record from the mid-90s might be a stretch unless Musa elevates his game to new heights.
In other hockey updates, Minnesota Wild prospect Charlie Stramel faced a tough end to his collegiate career. Stramel, 21, suffered a broken ankle during his final game against his former team, the University of Wisconsin. The Michigan State University standout wrapped up his senior year with 19 goals and 44 points over 37 games, a testament to his skill and resilience on the ice.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Wild felt the absence of their captain, Jared Spurgeon, in a recent loss to the Boston Bruins. Head coach John Hynes confirmed that Spurgeon is sidelined with a lower-body injury and is expected to miss a few upcoming games. Fortunately, with a short break before their next clash with the Vancouver Canucks, there’s hope Spurgeon will be back in action soon, providing much-needed leadership and defensive prowess for the Wild.
