ROSEMONT, Ill. - In a thrilling comeback, the Iowa Wild stormed back with four unanswered goals to secure a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena on Wednesday night. This game was a showcase of resilience and determination, with Iowa turning the tide after a slow start.
Chicago jumped ahead early, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 power play. Bradly Nadeau found the back of the net with a powerful one-timer inside the left post, putting the Wolves on the scoreboard at 16:41 in the first period. The Wolves dominated the opening frame, outshooting the Wild 14-8.
The momentum stayed with Chicago early in the second period. Nikita Pavlychev doubled the lead at 4:10, slipping a shot past Cal Petersen, who ended the night with 24 saves.
But Iowa wasn't about to back down. Carson Lambos ignited the comeback midway through the second period.
He deftly maneuvered around a defender and sent a shot over Cayden Primeau’s blocker, assisted by Dylan Gambrell and Gerry Mayhew. This goal was the spark Iowa needed.
With just over three minutes left in the period, Mayhew struck again on the power play. After a point shot from David Spacek, Mayhew was quick to follow up on Gambrell’s jam attempt, leveling the score. By the end of two periods, the Wolves held a slight edge in shots, 22-21.
The third period was a testament to Iowa's grit. Hunter Haight broke the tie with a clutch goal, collecting an outlet pass from Ben Gleason and slipping a backhander under Primeau with just 4:25 remaining.
As the clock wound down, Jean-Luc Foudy sealed the deal with an empty-netter, assisted by Tyler Pitlick, with 39 seconds left on the clock. Iowa outshot Chicago 36-26, showing their dominance as the game progressed. Both teams finished 1-for-4 on the power play.
