Chicago Blackhawks Snap Wild's Streak with 2-1 Victory
In a thrilling matchup at Grand Casino Arena, the Chicago Blackhawks edged past the Minnesota Wild 2-1, ending Minnesota's impressive 19-game point streak against them. The last time the Blackhawks tasted victory over the Wild was back in November 2024, and this win marks their first regulation road triumph in Minnesota since 2017.
Spencer Knight was a standout, making 28 crucial saves for Chicago. Reflecting on the game, Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill noted, “We’ve played three pretty good games against Minnesota prior to this.
We know they’re a great team. Always really, really well-coached.”
Ilya Mikheyev and Connor Bedard were the heroes on the scoresheet for Chicago, who are now 3-1-1 in their last five games. They’re battling hard, sitting seven points behind the Seattle Kraken for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Knight emphasized the importance of staying true to their game plan, saying, “It’s a privilege to be in those close games. Those are games we want to be in, and it feels good.”
For the Wild, Nico Sturm found the net, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their recent struggles, having lost four of their past five games. Despite sitting third in the Central Division, they’re six points behind the Dallas Stars, albeit with three games in hand. Wild coach John Hynes acknowledged the need to push through their current challenges.
The game saw Mikheyev opening the scoring with a deft redirect in the first period, followed by Bedard doubling the lead with a breakaway goal in the second. Sturm’s goal in the third period gave Minnesota hope, but Knight’s resilience, especially in the final moments against a Mats Zuccarello attempt, sealed the deal for Chicago.
Connor Bedard’s performance was particularly noteworthy, as he notched his 12th career game-winning goal, setting a new record for the Blackhawks by a player aged 20 or younger, surpassing legends Jonathan Toews and Bobby Hull.
Minnesota faced additional challenges with Kirill Kaprizov sidelined due to a lower-body injury. However, Bobby Brink returned to the lineup, contributing one hit in over 14 minutes of ice time.
This victory could be a turning point for the Blackhawks as they continue their playoff push, while the Wild will be looking to regroup and regain their momentum in upcoming games.
