Vikings Win Third Straight as Veteran Stars Finally Step Up

With gritty performances on both sides of the ball, the Vikings extended their win streak behind clutch defense and key individual turnarounds.

The Minnesota Vikings are starting to stack wins at just the right time. Their 16-13 victory over the New York Giants wasn’t exactly a highlight-reel affair, but it marked their third straight win-and in December, that’s what matters.

It was a grind-it-out kind of game, with both teams combining for just 3.6 yards per play. But in that kind of slugfest, it’s often the little things-timely plays, steady veterans, and defensive grit-that make the difference.

And that’s exactly how the Vikings got it done.

Aaron Jones Shows His Value-Even at Less Than 100%

Aaron Jones didn't have the luxury of easing into this one. He picked up an ankle injury early, but with Jordan Mason going down shortly after, Jones had no choice but to carry the load.

And he did just that-21 carries, 85 tough yards, plus a couple of screen catches for another 8. It wasn’t flashy, but it was effective.

He kept the chains moving, chewed up clock, and gave the defense time to catch its breath between series. That’s veteran leadership in action.

Jones’ performance won’t jump off the stat sheet, but it was exactly what the Vikings needed. His ability to stay on the field and grind out yards helped control tempo in a game where every possession mattered. He posted a solid 72.8 grade from PFF, and frankly, that feels like the right call-steady, reliable, and essential.

Justin Jefferson: Back in Rhythm

It’s been a bumpy ride this season for Justin Jefferson. Between quarterback changes and some uncharacteristic drops, the All-Pro wideout hasn’t quite looked like himself. But Monday night, we saw flashes of the Jefferson we know-the one who can take over a game.

He hauled in 6 catches for 85 yards on 8 targets, including a couple of tough grabs in traffic. Yes, there was another drop he’d like to have back, but overall, this was his most complete performance in weeks.

He looked more in sync with the young quarterbacks, and his route-running was as sharp as ever. PFF gave him an 85.3 grade, and it’s hard to argue.

If Jefferson is heating up again, that’s a huge development for Minnesota’s offense heading into the final stretch.

Andrew Van Ginkel Closes the Door

There were a handful of defensive standouts, but Andrew Van Ginkel deserves a spotlight moment. With the game on the line and the Giants facing a 4th-and-3, Van Ginkel came up with the sack that sealed the win. That’s the kind of clutch play Minnesota has been looking for from him, and it’s a sign he’s rounding back into the form we saw last season.

He also made an impact in coverage, showing off his versatility and football IQ. His 77.3 PFF grade reflects a well-rounded performance, and more importantly, he delivered when it mattered most.

Brian Flores Has This Defense Locked In

Let’s talk about this defense. Over the last few weeks, they’ve been one of the most consistent units in the league.

No passing touchdowns allowed in several games. Just two field goals surrendered this week.

And they’re giving up only 11 points per game during this win streak (and that’s not counting the defensive touchdown they allowed).

Brian Flores deserves a ton of credit here. Coming into the season, depth in the secondary was a major concern.

But Flores has managed the rotation masterfully, and the unit is playing with confidence and discipline. This group is fast, physical, and clearly well-coached.

They’re not just surviving-they’re dictating games.

Isaiah Rodgers: Locked In and Having Fun

Isaiah Rodgers was dialed in from the jump. Against a struggling Giants passing attack, he did exactly what you’d expect from a CB1-he shut things down. His coverage was tight, his reads were sharp, and he played with the kind of swagger you want from a top corner.

And let’s not overlook the pregame cleats. The Elf on the Shelf theme was elite. Rodgers is bringing style and substance to the field, and his 84.8 PFF grade reflects just how well he’s playing right now.

This wasn’t a pretty win, but it was a gritty one-and sometimes, that tells you more about a team than a blowout. The Vikings are finding ways to win, leaning on their vets, playing smart defense, and getting timely plays when they need them. With three straight victories under their belt, they’re quietly building momentum-and in December, that’s a dangerous thing.
