Vikings Linked to Falcons Star as Offseason Shakeup Looms

With key free agents set to depart, Minnesota could look to a proven Falcons standout to bolster its defense and reset its offseason strategy.

The Minnesota Vikings are heading into an offseason that could shape the next chapter of their rebuild - and it starts with some tough decisions at key positions. Two names at the center of the conversation are wide receiver Jalen Nailor and linebacker Eric Wilson, both set to hit free agency. While Nailor’s future is worth monitoring, it's Wilson’s situation that’s drawing the most attention, especially given how impactful he's been on both defense and special teams.

Wilson’s versatility has made him a valuable piece in Brian Flores’ aggressive, scheme-flexible defense. But value in the NFL is always relative - and with a strong 2025 campaign behind him, Wilson could be in line for a payday that the Vikings might not be willing to match. That opens the door for Minnesota to explore other options, and one name that’s been floated as a potential fit is Atlanta Falcons linebacker Kaden Elliss.

Elliss isn’t a household name, but he’s been quietly productive over the past three seasons in Atlanta. With a 75.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus and 140 total stops in that span, he’s proven to be more than just a role player.

What really jumps off the page, though, is his pass-rushing prowess. Since 2022, Elliss has posted an 84.8 pass-rushing grade - the third-best among qualifying linebackers.

That kind of pressure from the second level is exactly what Flores looks for in his front seven.

In many ways, Elliss fits the mold of what the Vikings need if they decide to move on from Wilson. He brings a blend of consistency and upside, especially in a system that thrives on creating confusion and pressure. His ability to be a disruptive force in the backfield while still holding his own in coverage and against the run makes him a strong candidate for a starting role in Minnesota.

Looking at the numbers, Elliss has been remarkably steady. Each of his three seasons in Atlanta saw him rack up at least 100 tackles and 3.5 sacks.

In his most recent campaign, he tallied 107 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, 3.5 sacks, six pass deflections, one forced fumble, and an interception - all while starting all 17 games. He may not have a Pro Bowl nod on his résumé, but his production speaks volumes.

Financially, Elliss is coming off a three-year, $21 million deal signed in 2023. At 30 years old, he’s likely not commanding a massive raise, but he’ll want fair value for what he brings. A contract in the ballpark of $7-8 million per year seems realistic - and for a player who could step in and start from day one, that’s a number the Vikings might be comfortable with.

The age factor also plays in Elliss’ favor. He’s a year younger than Wilson and has shown no signs of slowing down. If Minnesota can land him at a reasonable price, it would allow them to maintain continuity on defense without overextending financially.

At the end of the day, the Vikings have to decide whether Wilson’s all-around impact is worth the cost - or if they can get similar production from a player like Elliss, who fits the system and brings a proven track record of reliability and playmaking. It’s the kind of calculated move that general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has to get right if Minnesota wants to stay competitive while building for the future.

This offseason might not bring sweeping roster changes, but make no mistake - moves like this could go a long way in shaping how the Vikings look come September.
