Vikings Injury Report Puts Several Key Starters In Doubt For Sunday

Injury updates and practice progress reveal potential shifts in team performance as the Vikings and Saints prepare for their Sunday showdown.

The Minnesota Vikings got encouraging news on a few fronts Wednesday as they opened their week of work for Sunday’s matchup with the New Orleans Saints at Caesar’s Superdome.

Justin Jefferson was back on the field in a limited role, which at least puts him back in the mix after missing time. Jordan Addison, meanwhile, did not practice because of a hamstring issue that Kevin O’Connell described as minor, “if it is anything at all,” so it does not sound like a long-term concern. Christian Darrisaw also sat out while working through concussion protocol, leaving his status less certain heading into the weekend.

There was better news on the special teams side. Brett Thorson was a full participant, matching O’Connell’s expectation that he would be back as the Vikings’ punter and holder against the Saints. Minnesota also waived Johnny Hekker from the practice squad, another sign Thorson should be ready for Sunday.

Two more Vikings - Michael Jurgens and Ben Yurosek - were full participants after their 21-day windows to return from injured reserve were opened Wednesday. Whether either one gets activated in time for the game still may depend on other roster moves. Brian O’Neill, who was limited with a knee issue, also appears to be dealing with something minor and is likely to play through it.

The Vikings’ first report also listed Jordan Mason as out with a thumb injury, while Charles Demmings did not practice because of a hamstring issue. Aaron Jones was limited with a non-injury-related rest day, and the report also showed full participation from Jurgens, Thorson and Yurosek.

On the New Orleans side, the Saints listed a trio of starters on injured reserve: Kelvin Banks, Bryan Bresee and Travis Etienne. They also had several other players working through various issues, with Julian Blackmon, Noah Fant, Carl Granderson, Mike Reid and Tyler Shough all limited, and Jaylan Ford and Lorenzo Styles turning in full sessions.

Alvin Kamara did not practice because of back soreness after Monday night’s game against the Falcons, making him one to watch. Tyler Shough is also dealing with an injury, but it’s to the non-throwing left hand, which makes it less likely to keep him out Sunday.

The Saints also opened 21-day return windows for Lorenzo Styles and Jaylan Ford, though it remains unclear whether either will be activated for this game. New Orleans’ injury list was long, but beyond the names at the top, the team’s Wednesday report suggests most of the rest may not carry major weight for Sunday.

Stay tuned.

Vikings Still Have One Clear Path Even After Murray's Shaky Start

The early NFC quarterback picture already has a few familiar names under a microscope, and Kyler Murray is right there among them after a shaky start to the 2026 season. He is still viewed as a quarterback with enough talent to settle in as the year unfolds, but the opening stretch has left plenty of room for skepticism as the league starts sorting out which passers can carry their teams through the long middle of the schedule.

For Minnesota, that matters because the Vikings are watching the conference landscape with the same practical lens they use on everything else: which path still looks open, and which one is already closing. Jalon Daniels, meanwhile, is dealing with a far different early assignment as a rookie pressed into action because of injury, adding another layer of uncertainty to a quarterback group that is already hard to read. The upside for the Vikings is that the NFC still feels fluid, but the challenge is finding a route that remains clear once the season starts separating hopeful starts from real momentum. Odell Beckham Jr. Gives Undefeated Vikings Needed Help Fast

A quick phone call from Kevin OConnell helped push Odell Beckham Jr. toward Minnesota, and the move gives the undefeated Vikings a jolt they clearly needed. Beckham arrives with a rsum that still carries weight around the league, including Pro Bowl recognition and a Super Bowl title, and his familiarity with OConnell from the Rams' championship run made the fit easier to see from the start.

The timing matters even more because Minnesota has struggled badly through the air, sitting last in passing yards. Beckham also lands in a receiver room with a familiar face in Justin Jefferson, giving the Vikings another established target as they try to stabilize an offense that has not yet found its rhythm. Whether the addition can lift the passing game quickly is the question now hanging over a team that has kept winning anyway. [Read more 🡒]

Vikings Backfield Problem Could Force A Huge Move At 4-0

The Vikings have raced to a 4-0 start, but the early success has not erased the questions around their offense, especially in the backfield. Injuries and a thin running back room have left Minnesota trying to patch together answers, even as the team continues to build around a roster that has otherwise found ways to win.

Odell Beckham Jr. landing on the practice squad added another layer of depth, but the bigger conversation may be whether Minnesota needs to look outside the building for a more significant fix. Saquon Barkley has emerged as a possible target from Philadelphia, though his hamstring issue and the Eagles willingness to consider future draft assets could complicate any move. [Read more 🡒]
