Vikings Get Pulled Back Into A Shedeur Sanders Quarterback Debate

Shedeur Sanders' recent decision to hire prominent agent Adie von Gontard suggests potential trade possibilities, raising intrigue about his future with the Cleveland Browns and possible new NFL destinations.

Shedeur Sanders’ move to hire Adie von Gontard, CEO of Young Money APAA Sports, doesn’t automatically mean a trade is coming. But in a quarterback situation already full of noise in Cleveland, it’s the kind of development that naturally gets people talking.

Sanders, who got through draft night and the opening stretch of his NFL career without an agent, has now signed with von Gontard for representation. That means YMAPAA now represents both Sanders and his former Colorado teammate Travis Hunter.

On the field, though, things haven’t gone the way Sanders likely wanted. He lost Cleveland’s starting quarterback competition to Deshaun Watson, and through five games he has barely been used. His line so far is stark: one snap, one pass attempt.

If the Browns ever do decide to move him, a few teams jump out as possible fits.

Minnesota looks like the cleanest spot if the idea is competition. The Vikings are 5-0, but their offense has not consistently clicked, and quarterback could become a real question if that continues. They have enough talent around the roster to stay in the mix, which makes them an appealing place for a young quarterback to land.

A Sanders-Kyler Murray competition would be one of the more intriguing quarterback battles out there. Minnesota wouldn’t have to hand Sanders anything.

It could simply bring him in and let him earn it. For Sanders, that would be a much better runway than sitting buried behind Watson with no clear path to the field.

New Orleans also makes sense as a possible destination. The Saints have already dealt with frustration over their disappointing start, and ownership has been open about that dissatisfaction. Sanders would bring upside, and the chance to develop inside Kellen Moore’s offense could appeal to a team that wants to look at a young quarterback without locking itself into a forever answer right away.

Then there’s the Jets, maybe the most fascinating option of the bunch. New York is playing respectable football and just beat Cleveland 17-12, with Geno Smith throwing for 182 yards and a touchdown.

Smith is the starter now, but the Jets could eventually have to decide whether he’s their long-term solution. Sanders would give them a younger quarterback to develop behind him or possibly challenge for the job later on.

Still, none of this means Sanders is on the move soon. The new agent could simply be about getting his career lined up professionally. But given Cleveland’s messy quarterback picture, the speculation comes naturally.

If the Browns do choose to go in another direction, Minnesota, New Orleans and New York all look like names worth keeping on the radar.

Vikings Fans Had The Same Thought After That U.S. Bank Stadium Sign

A digital sign outside U.S. Bank Stadium briefly had Vikings fans doing a double take this week, after it showed a No. 10 jersey with the name Hill on it. In a place where every little graphic can set off instant speculation, plenty of eyes jumped to the obvious football connection and wondered if the team was teasing something much bigger.

The explanation was a lot more ordinary, and a lot more local. The display was tied to a stadium employee with the last name Hill, while the fan buzz around Tyreek Hill never had any real footing. It was the kind of mix-up that says as much about the modern NFL as it does about Minnesota's own corner of it, where even an innocent anniversary nod can turn into a rumor in a hurry. [Read more 🡒]

Brian Flores Has The Vikings Defense Playing At Another Level

Byron Murphy Jr. has been part of enough defenses to know when a unit is clicking, and the Vikings cornerback made it clear that Minnesotas group is operating with a level of confidence that starts with defensive coordinator Brian Flores. Murphy pointed to Flores coaching and the defenses experience as reasons the Vikings have been so effective, a sign that this isnt just about individual playmaking but about the way the entire group is being put together.

The bigger story for Minnesota is how seamlessly the communication has carried over from one snap to the next. Murphy singled out that shared understanding as a major piece of the defenses success, which helps explain why the Vikings keep looking so composed even as other NFC North teams are dealing with their own injury updates and lineup questions. For a defense trying to stay among the leagues most disruptive, that kind of trust can be just as valuable as talent. [Read more 🡒]

Vikings Young Defensive Tackles Are Changing This Defense Fast

The Vikings have made a noticeable turn on their defensive front this season, and it has come from players who were supposed to be supporting pieces rather than the center of the story. Jalen Redmond and Levi Drake Rodriguez have given Minnesota real help on the interior, bringing energy, run defense and enough pass-rush presence to keep the line from leaning too heavily on the veterans the team counted on when it signed Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave.

Instead, the younger tackles have become part of why this defense has held up so well, offering the kind of sustainability Minnesota needed as the season has unfolded. Allen and Hargrave arrived with Pro Bowl rsums, but the Vikings are learning quickly that the most useful answers up front may already be on the roster, even if they were not supposed to be the names driving the discussion this early.
