The Vikings may have bigger questions than just who starts at quarterback Monday night.
Carson Wentz is set to take over for Kyler Murray, who is out with a hamstring injury, when Minnesota hosts the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. Both teams are 6-1, and the Bills are listed as 3-point road favorites. But the more immediate concern for the Vikings could be what happens on the edge of the offensive line.
Left tackle Christian Darrisaw is dealing with a shoulder injury, and his outlook for the game sounded shaky when he spoke with reporters Thursday. Minnesota had nine players on the injury report that day, with seven limited in practice.
Darrisaw’s shoulder issue surfaced in the Vikings’ loss to the Lions, and his comments didn’t exactly inspire confidence. Asked whether he was pretty sure the shoulder was okay, he said, “We’re taking it a day at a time.”
He was a little more upbeat when asked if it was encouraging to be out there in practice. “Absolutely, absolutely.”
But when the conversation turned to whether he had feared something more serious right after Sunday’s game, Darrisaw said, “Never fear. Um, I know I trust this training staff.
Um, at the end of the day, it just come down just to being smart and um, just listening to what, what they’re saying and and telling ’em, give ’em good feedback on how my body’s feeling. And uh, when Monday gets here, we’ll, we’ll, we’ll see.”
It’s already been a season full of injury trouble for Darrisaw. He entered concussion protocol after the Dolphins game and missed Week 5 at New Orleans. He has started six games this year.
There’s also the bigger-picture history. Darrisaw tore his ACL and MCL in Week 8 of the 2024 season at the Rams, then had surgery on Nov. 4, 2024, just three months after signing a four-year extension worth $77 million guaranteed.
If he can’t play, the Vikings would turn to Ryan Van Demark at left tackle. That job would be especially important with Wentz facing Greg Rousseau, who leads Buffalo with seven sacks.
The next injury reports should give a clearer picture of whether Darrisaw’s practice work increases before kickoff.

Vikings Suddenly Make Sense In One Trade Rumor Fans Can't Ignore
The quarterback market has a way of turning strange in a hurry, and Daniel Jones is suddenly part of that conversation again. ESPN reports the Colts have already moved on from Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, and even after giving Jones a two-year extension in March, they have still been fielding interest from other teams looking for help under center.
For Minnesota, the fit is easy to understand. The Vikings have been searching for answers on offense, and Jones comes with a built-in link to Kevin OConnell, which is why the rumor has real traction around the league. Baltimore was among the teams that checked in, but the Ravens went in a different direction, leaving Minnesota as one of the more logical places to watch if this situation keeps developing. Vikings Suddenly Have A Daniel Jones Question They Can't Ignore
The quarterback market has a way of circling back on teams that thought they were set, and Minnesota is suddenly in that conversation again. An ESPN report says the Indianapolis Colts have discussed Daniel Jones in trade talks, with the Baltimore Ravens and Vikings both mentioned as possible landing spots, which is enough to put a familiar name back on the radar in Minneapolis.
For the Vikings, the appeal is easy to understand if the need becomes immediate. Jones is one of the more notable backup-level options in the league, and the possibility of adding him would depend heavily on how the quarterback room looks if the starter is sidelined. His contract also adds another layer to the discussion, since the guarantees attached to it could shape whether any deal is even workable. [Read more 🡒]
Odell Beckham Jr. Suddenly Looks In Play For Vikings Against Buffalo
Odell Beckham Jr. may not have gotten on the field for the Vikings in Week 5, but the path toward his debut in Minnesota has reopened quickly. The team signed Beckham to the practice squad and elevated him to the active roster last week, only to leave him inactive after Justin Jefferson was cleared to play, but the veteran receiver has continued working with the group and remains part of the conversation as Minnesota prepares for Buffalo.
Kevin O'Connell has said Beckham has looked good in practice, and the Vikings are weighing another elevation before Monday night. An injury to Jauan Jennings has helped create the opening, putting Beckham back in position to potentially suit up sooner rather than later as Minnesota sorts through its receiver decisions ahead of a tough matchup with the Bills.
